Can't review the food because ... it was closed. They took a reservation for me, which was confirmed, and then when I arrived, the doors were locked, and no one answered the phone. Normal business hours. Very peculiar.

Ordered the birria tacos and needless to say the experience wasn’t what I was hoping for. The tacos had no cheese and the sauce was different not in the good way.not good for the price tag at all

A wonderful hidden gem right outside of downtown. We've been here twice now and plan to return on a regular basis. The food is authentic and made lovingly and our waiter was attentive and polite. El Habanero should be in your rotation, it will not disappoint!

I ordered a Cuban sandwich and two empanadas. The Cuban had the smallest amount of ham and the tiniest pickles. The French fries served with the sandwich where probably re-fried given how greasy and hard they were at the same time. The empanadas were undercooked (the outside not crispy or bubly) and also soaked in grease. I literally drained grease & condensed water from the container. In addition they use containers that trap heat and cause things to get soggy (the metal ones you crimp the lid on). The only saving grace is the employee who took my order was polite and friendly.

We are San Diego natives dropping off our son at Syracuse for the school year. He said he found his new taco spot. The staff was so excited and happy to see us enjoy the food. The place has enough space to be a great hangout. Still new but everyone should spread the word!

El Habanero is a new Cuban / Mexican restaurant at 324 Burnett Avenue. It's 1-page menu lists Mexican dishes on the front and Cuban dishes and miscellaneous items on the reverse. I decided to try the Birria Tacos. They came in soft corn tortillas with some chopped onion and cilantro. The warm shredded beef was tender, moist, and flavorful. It was absolutely free of fat or grizzle. Every bite was delicious after applying juice from lime wedges and one of the two sauces provided. One was a dark red hot sauce and the other a green tomatillo sauce. The hot sauce was delicious and very hot, so use sparingly, and be warmed it's a slow burn that increases with time. With my meal, I received their in-house chips and salsa, very good , and for dessert I ordered the flan. The flan was okay, but the tacos were outstanding. Most of their business is take out, and they're busier at lunch than at dinner. They do have three tables for two. However, they have an additional room which they plan to use to expand indoor dining in the near future. The service was excellent, both attentive and friendly. The room was clean, bright and nicely decorated with Mexican/Cuban art making it a very pleasant environment to enjoy a meal.

Glad to see this location re-open/re-imagine itself. Great service, good food, although one of my carnitas tacos seemed gypped in terms of size. Looking forward to going again.Parking is all on-street, which is the biggest drawback here.

Excellent tacos and great, friendly service. If you like Birria Tacos this is the place for you. I want to come back and check out the Cuban sandwich's.

I received a togo leftover half of a Cuban sandwich and fries from a friend. And I am coming here to say that after reheating at 350f for 15 minutes, both were DELICIOUS so I can only imagine what it was like fresh. The bread and butter pickles were a SURPRISE, and while the idea of the pickles is for a contrast, the sandwich eats almost better with this choice in pickles! The fries were seasoned deliciousness, too. Yummmmmmmm

Very fast service, delicious food the tacos are very good. Can't wait to go back for a coffee and a Cuban sandwich.

Walking into this restaurant the first time felt like walking into my childhood home. Spanish music playing in the background, people in the kitchen laughing loudly, the smells of delicious food. And those smells did not disappoint. From the tacos to the freshly made salsas, there's nothing here you won't enjoy. On your way out, make sure to say "see you later" to the staff because you'll definitely be back.
