Love to pop over here for quick workday pick-me-up. I like their cold brew & espresso products but I might try a special "beverage of the day" from time to time.

Cool, chill coffee shop with good drinks. Great for a break or good conversation

A good coffee shop should be a bit of a respite, and that's exactly what Freedom of Espresso is. Located in Armory Square, it's a good place to rest while waiting for friends or waiting for a table to free up at one of the popular downtown restaurants. It's never been crowded whenever I've popped in, giving me some much needed time and space to wind down and relax. I didn't realize they had so many iced coffee options (reading other reviews clues me in.) I will definitely have to return to try those!

Best Coffee in Syracuse.

One of my housemates recommended Freedom of Espresso because of the flavor of their coffee and the hours. Since I've been in Syracuse I've been surprised by the limited hours of so many establishments here in Downtown and even around SU. After chatting for a bit with the barista, I learned that they can make any drink on their menu iced. She recommended the tortoise coffee, a concoction of coffee, caramel, chocolate, and hazelnut. Very reminiscent of turtle cheesecake and a delight on the tongue. They have a limited selection of food, so don't plan on purchasing food while here. For the environmentally conscious, they've transitioned to paper straws. This place has an almost dive vibe to it. It's an open space with 5 low top tables and three bar tables. Additionally there's a couch and lounge chair around a coffee table. The wall on the right side has the work of a local artist for sale depicting what appeared to be scenes from around Syracuse. Two of the walls are basically large windows, with two bay windows at the front, all of which make the area very well lit. There are colored lights around some of the windows along with stain glassed panes in the shape of coffee cups. If you need to use the restroom, ask the barista for they key- there's a hallway in the back that connects the Subway next door to Freedom of Espresso. Very interesting. Big warning!! The seat is broken, so sit carefully and don't plop down because you will slide around. The barista was very nice and we had a lovely conversation about the fares they offer. The barista is also VERY chatty, especially with patrons who come regularly. We're talking nonstop banter ranging from financial struggles to boomer stereotypes. Outlets are a bit sparse if you're coming in to get work done. From what I saw, there are two on the side walls by the bay windows and then one by the counter with napkins, cream, and other coffeeshop self-serve accouterment. Moral of the story, if you're hankering for a caffeine fix and are in Armory Square, stop by and refuel at a locally owned shop in lieu of the Starbucks across the street. But if you're looking for a quiet work space with ample charging opportunities, perhaps search elsewhere.

Ordered a tall, triple, soy latte, she said it won't fit in the cup (drink one all the time from Starbucks) switched to grande quad, no foam, fill to top. As she is pouring the milk foam and all into the cup I say no foam please, she says I heard you and continues pouring. I hand it back to her and ask for no foam, she removes it as she explains what a latte is, hands it back to me, now half full, I hand it back and ask her to top it off, she fills the cup with all foam. And the espresso is bitter. Worst customer service ever. Next time I'll wait in line at Starbucks.

Nice girl and cute place but, I'm sorry, the straight espresso shot was nasty and bitter.

I am an ex-employee of this establishment and I encourage that no one give their money to this business. The employers take total advantage of their employees, making them work 6-7 days a week, full shifts with no breaks. On your ONE day off, you will get called in and made to feel bad when you say no. Not only are you worked like a slave, the owner always falls through with orders placed for the stores, constantly leaving them empty handed and without product. Furthermore, the owner does not even know how to run the store, or even open the cash register! This company barely has enough staff to run the stores, yet they turn away perfectly good resumés because they owners are sexist and like to only hire beautiful young girls. This list could go on forever. So to conclude this review, again, I strongly encourage that no one waste their money at this shop. Spend it elsewhere on far better coffee, where it'll go to a company that actually cares and stands for something.

Decent coffee in a good city.

These at times are the perfect place for a latte. The service carries from one location to another unfortunately. One location will be the friendliest coffee shop you've ever been and another location they say "what do you want?"
