This is my favorite restaurant. The food is always excellent and the service is outstanding. There is no problem talking because the noise is minimal. The perfect restaurant for any occasion or simply a friendly dinner. Never disappointing

ZERO STARS...?..Me and my husband have eaten all over the world and have never been treated so disrespectful as we did at this restaurant from the owner! When we were seated my husband ordered a drink that was watered down. So he brought it back to the bar and told the bartender to add more alcohol. Then he complained to the owner that it was poorly made and the owner had some nerve to tell us that he tells the bartender to do that on purpose because alcohol is expensive! I was appalled. So unprofessional. But wait it gets better. Then we received are meals which were very small for the price. What a disappointment. The food is mediocre.I've had much better for less money. Then we received the check and while we were looking it over the owner came over to the table and tells us we have to leave. He has a big group coming, how rude! When the restaurant was empty. Then we proceeded to give him the check he looked at it and started YELLING. What no tip for me!!!!!!..I'm not worth a tip!!!!. We were going to leave the tip at the table he didn't give us time. He was unhinged and yelling get the hell out of my restaurant before I call the cops. He embarrassed us in front of other guests. He is very cheap with his customers. He doesn't have waiters. He takes the orders himself. If i had a case I would sue him for the anxiety and the fact i couldn't breathe that he caused for no reason! I hope this man loses his business! He is disrespectful and a lunatic for what he did! The girl who works for him told me she has quit many times! STAY AWAY. I should of scrolled down more to see more reviews before I made a decision to eat here! Once again...What comes around goes around and for what you caused me and my husband..I don't know how this restaurant is zagat rated. The owner is a disgrace!.Nobody treats me like that!.??????.DON'T EAT HERE..HEED MY WARNING..

All the pasta is homemade and the sauces are delicious. Try the bolognese and the vodka sauce. Excellent service and an on hands owner in a wonderful cozy atmosphere. Very aprapos to that old Italian restaurant feel. They do not accept walk ins so make reservations ahead of time.

Peppe and his staff were wonderful!!! We were celebrating my mom’s 100th birthday and they made it a very special event. Every single dish was prepared deliciously and we enjoyed every minute of the special evening!!! Would highly recommend this restaurant…great for intimate or family gatherings!!!

My wife and I were there for a political function combo meeting and Christmas luncheon. This establishment is super clean, bright, and cozy.The food and wine were delicious. I had chicken parm. Was fantastic. Was batted down thin and breaded and seasoned to perfection. VERY tender, I only had to use my folk to cut. The marinara was fresh semi chunky lite delicious and perfect. The fresh bread came in handy to clean up my plate. My wife has a fresh pasta marinara dish and NO complaints there.The waiter and waitress were professional, non obtrusive, thoughtful and caring about their service to us.Thank you iL Portico for having us and making us feel welcomed! Ordered dinner from here today. The owner is so nice. The food is delicious. I had Caesar salad, pasta, meatballs, and short ribs. Everything was perfect.
1st time dining there and it was a wonderful experience. We had the pleasure of speaking directly with the owner and he was extremely welcoming and helpful with the menu. Will definitely dine there again soon.

My first time here. We were a party of five. The menu was impressive. Order appetizers for all. Mussels, eggplant , meatballs and fried calamari. All appetizers weee delicious. Entrees were raviolis, chicken scallopine and parmigiana, salmon. All were delicious too. Everyone in the party were very happy with their meals.

Il Portico is one of our very favorite restaurants. We stumbled upon it in searching for a restaurant that was midway between our home in central NJ and our friends' home in Connecticut and have been back multiple times since. Even though it is an hour's drive from our house, we think it is well worth the trip. The ambience, in the restored old house, is lovely - relaxed and quiet (nice to be able to hold a conversation without straining). The service is outstanding - attentive without hovering or being overly formal. The owner (Peppe) greets you warmly (even though it had been a few months since our last visit, I was impressed about how much he remembered of our conversation) and our waitress (Paige) was very helpful in walking us through the menu and being sure we had what we needed. And the food is terrific - tasty and good sized portions. On our last visit, my wife had the bronzino which was obviously fresh and well prepared and I had the short ribs which were very tender and stick to your ribs good! At the risk of making it too popular (although Peppe is very attentive to managing the reservations so that he can maintain the high quality dining experience), I cannot recommend it highly enough!

Both our meals were delicious. For an appetizer we split the baby arugula, fresh mozzarella, avocado, quinoa, roasted pickled peppers, olive oil. For our entrees we had Homemade Potato Gnocchi & the Homemade Tagliatelle Bolognese and we ended with gelato. Staff was a joy to interact with and Peppe is a delight and always enjoyable to talk to. Can't wait to go back.

As always, the food at Il Portico has been excellent. The staff went above and beyond with our order. We ordered two pasta appetizers, a salad, and chicken parm. It was a perfect balance of food and we were able to pick it up and take it home and enjoy. Everything was packaged with great care and my friend told me that he wanted to go back in the near future to eat at the restaurant. I have not had anything at the restaurant that I did not enjoy.
