About The Old '76 House

The Old '76 House offers a perfect dining experience with delicious food and great service in a historical setting. The attentive staff contributes to a fun atmosphere, sharing interesting facts about the tavern's past, which includes stories of figures like Benedict Arnold and George Washington. The menu may feel a little dated by some, but the overall experience remains amazing. Customers have praised dishes such as the chicken pot pie and shepherd's pie for their incredible flavors, as well as the jagerschnitzel for its crispy texture and sweet red cabbage. The chicken cordon bleu is noted for its unbelievable tenderness, while the pot roast beef is described as yummy and fantastic, especially when paired with mashed potatoes and sweet red cabbage.

Although the veggies served with most dishes could use more flavor, the restaurant's atmosphere and history make it a must-visit destination. Guests have enjoyed the live jazz music during dinner, adding to the experience. The cocktails, however, could be improved, with some reporting issues with drinks like the old fashioned and Irish coffee. Despite a few critiques, the desserts, particularly the creme brulee, continue to impress. The Old '76 House is a great spot for both special celebrations and regular visits, with a decent gluten-free selection and a blend of history and good food.

Great staff and food. Coming back for the evening music too!
We had dinner at the 76 House after visiting the DeWint House, keeping with the historic theme.
Cozy, period appropriate decor, especially the table with the wing chairs. We had a quiet table by the fireplace. The Vegan Moussaka and Classic Chicken Cordon Bleue entrees were perfection and the Chocopeanutbutta Pie and Hannah's Apple Crunch desserts were delicious. We will be returning to try the Yankee Pot Roast. Definitely recommend reservations. The restaurant website has...read full review
