I get the pinsa pizza for takeout and house the entire pie every time like a vacuum cleaner. Sometimes I’ll eat it right before the gym and I don’t feel groggy or anything. I’m a believer in the Roman way, I am a believer in Mercato.

Have been to Mercato numerous times. The first few visits the food & service were great. Last night we brought guests from out of town and were quite disappointed. They changed the recipe for the grilled octopus, it is now sitting in fava beans that were sour, the original purée that the octopus was served on was delicious! I. Addition, the octopus itself was over cooked and like rubber! It was never cooked/served like that before. We were 5 people… one person winded up receiving their entree after everyone else was done with their entrees and our dishes had already been cleared from the table. He sat and ate his meal alone, while the rest of us sat and watched. A bit disappointing.. after loving it the previous visits. They were nice enough to remove the charges for the 2 octopus appetizers.

Mercato Roman Pizza Works in Tappan isn’t just dinner—it’s a handmade fever dream, plated hot and chased with a glass of purple revelation. Five stars, no hesitation. I walked in expecting a casual bite and staggered out like a man who’d glimpsed the divine through a haze of sausage and sangria.

Everything here is handmade—everything. The dough is alive, blistered just right, with that perfect chew that says someone back there knows exactly what they’re doing. The sausage on the pizza? Absolute carnivorous poetry. Rich, spiced, with a fennel bite that wakes up parts of your brain you thought had gone soft. Scattered across molten cheese and a bright, balanced sauce—it’s the kind of flavor that doesn’t just land, it lingers, like a good story or a bad decision.

And then there’s the blueberry sangria. Cold. Dark. Slightly sweet with a flash of citrus and just enough danger to make you loosen your grip on the evening. The blueberries soak and swell, little wine-soaked grenades waiting to explode on your tongue. It’s smooth, seductive, and utterly satisfying.

The whole operation runs smooth—tight staff, no pretension, no noise. My waiter, Cory, was sharp, attentive, and on point from start to finish. The kind of service that elevates a good meal into a memorable one.

And just when you think you’ve seen it all—the pepper shakers are automatic. No grinding, no twisting—just lift and tilt, and they buzz to life, dispensing black pepper like futuristic little spice droids. A small detail, but in a place like this, it all adds up.

So do yourself a favor. Skip the nonsense, order the handmade sausage pizza and a tall blueberry sangria. Sit down. Let go. This isn’t just dinner—it’s therapy by way of dough, wine, and wonder.

The owners are the same from the filling station. Both restaurants are amazing, so let this serve as a double recommendation. The pizza is so tasty and the staff are very welcoming. There is plenty of parking, and they do serve coffee, which was a plus for me. The atmosphere is cozy, and it's dimly lit. This is a completely relaxing experience.

Love this place! The food is amazing and the servers are always very friendly. My fiancé and I try to make any excuse we can to trek down here. I highly recommend Mercato. It somehow surpasses all of the woodfired places I've ever been to, and that's not an easy feat.

Roman style but not that thick heavy roman style most people think of. This place has a sourdough type of feel because the dough goes through a 96 hour cold fermentation before getting cooked in the wood fire oven. Diablo and homemade sausage were amazing. Great job Mercato.
