Went to the ‘76 House for dinner with friends and we had a great time. Service was excellent. The owner came over to our table and gave us a history lesson on the place. The restaurant dates back to the 1600’s. George Washington and Benedict Arnold would eat and hang out there. Food was extremely good too. Icing on the cake.
We had a lovely family meal one evening in such historic surroundings. We were welcomed in, the serving staff were lovely and seeing an open fire always makes you feel cozy. My son said the burger was the best he had ever had.
If you have even a passing interest in American history then you must go here. Not just a meal but an experience. Benedict Arnold, John Andre, George Washington... All here, all at the same time. Here. Alexander Hamilton lived upstairs for two years (or six depending on the source). Have the same ale recipe that was GWs fave. Some of this is myth, probably, but the Tappan House really did see these figures. And the food is great! So is the service. So go. You won't regret...
