The woman at the front desk is a nightmare to deal with. Using a card is convenience fee of $2. And she loves to hover over the card reader when you’re wanting to add a tip but her finger always loves to go to the highest amount. This place used to be friendly and inviting but, it’s not anymore. Just get what you ordered and get out.

This review is a bit delayed as we actually visited China Wok back in October of 2022 during our road trip from Illinois to Maine, but we were just reminiscing about that road trip and the subject came up of, "Remember that Chinese Restaurant that tasted like heaven after driving all day/night through Up-State New York and the winding Adirondack Mountain roads?" and I was inspired to look it up- and wanted to leave it the review it deserves. We hadn't had a nice hot meal for some time at that point and were getting hungry, and knew everything would likely be closed already when we got to our destination in Lake Placid. So we did a quick google search and China Wok appeared to be the only place open that time of night within a pretty big radius. So we took a short detour off our route in Tupper Lake to check it out. We walked in and immediately loved the unique atmosphere/decoration and the kind gentleman behind the counter, who we assumed was the owner, greeted us warmly right away. We had the place to ourselves given the time of night, though it looked like he had quite a few take-out orders going out. We ordered our food and he cooked it up fresh for us, and it all tasted amazing. We will always refer to it as a hidden gem nestled in the Adirondack Mountains that we were fortunate enough to come across. Every time we go out for Chinese back home in Illinois, it just doesn't compare to the memory we have of our fresh-made, late night dinner we had in Tupper Lake. If you are ever traveling through and needing a hot meal like we were- definitely recommend you give it a try.We fell in love with the Adirondacks after this road trip and will definitely visit again. And when we do, we hope to visit China Wok again too!

The place is small but food is delicious, if you are looking for Asian food on the area. Good consumer service. Owner is very nice.

Delicious Chinese food! Coming from downstate NY, we didn't have high expectations for a local Chinese takeout place in Tupper Lake... but we had an amazing surprise!!!China Wok's had really great Chinese food! The General Tso's was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The sauce was great! We just weren't used to not having broccoli in the dish, but it was still delicious. The Vegetable Mai Fan was the best Mai Fan we've had in a long, long time! Needless to say, the chicken and broccoli was also delicious. The tofu with broccoli was really good with the white rice. The owner was kind enough to switch out the brown sauce for the white sauce for us. (Thank you!) The location was convinent, right in town. The inside of the place itself... it is a little dated and rustic, but clean. China Wok also has a large selection of drinks. We highly recommend it, and we will definitely be going back every time we're in the area!Vegetarian options: Great options!!

So my fiance and I ordered food from here, about $60 worth. One of the dishes was steamed dumplings and this garlic soy sauce dipping sauce. After eating a few, my fiance dipped a dumpling in the sauce and pulled out an ANT!! Dead of course and you could tell it's been in there for a while. So I didn't what anyone would do and called telling them what was in the food and they basically said I was making things up and said there was nothing they could do but offer us one singular new dumpling or a new sauce. GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE. Never would recommend going in there. Definitely not kid friendly

I'm a fan of American Chinese food and I've tried a good selection of places in my travels and I can honestly say this is some of the best I have ever had! (especially 'off the beaten path'!) I highly recommend China Wok for anyone in the area looking for their go-to Chinese food or someone just passing through! I now stop in about once a week for a very filling and delicious lunch. I always dine-in and get a combination platter, which includes an entree with pork fried rice and a pork egg roll. The pork fried rice is something that sets this place apart from others to me - it is fantastic! Loaded with delicious chunks of pork (not just the red bits you may be used to) and other normal additions including onions and scrambled egg. I have enjoyed everything I have ordered including Chicken with Garlic Sauce, Beef with Garlic Sauce, Sesame Chicken, Boneless Pork Spare Ribs, and Chicken with Cashew Nuts. This is as much local, family-run small business as any! Bonus points for the Adirondack decor (several deer taxidermies).Backstory: I am living around the Adirondacks this summer doing field work (breeding bird surveys) and early in the season (end of May), I stopped in to give this place a try. Since then, I have made it a point to stop in whenever I am in town (about once a week). The restaurant is run solely by a couple (husband and wife) who have raised four kids in Tupper Lake. They are very good to you as long as you are good to them! I will fondly remember my fresh, hot meals with good company.

Food was super good, dine-in. The cook in the back of the kitchen seemed to keep screaming at the waitress, although I’m not 100% sure. But the food was awesome.

We enjoyed the food at China Wok, but realized there was an additional 10% charge added to the menu price. I understand that costs are up due to inflation, but there was no indication that this "service change" would be included while ordering.I realize the owners may need to increase the prices, but this practice felt shady if not unethical.

Don't let the appearances detract you from ordering and enjoying their food. Good selection of food. Spring rolls were good and the pan fried dumplings were great. Recommend the House lo mein. Cook has been there for 25 years for a reason, his food is good.

Bland food, well really..too salty..I had to physically go IN to order bc she didn't understand me on the phone.. very inconvenient if someone lived where I do and had to do the same
