I ordered scrambled eggs, wheat toast, and hash. The scrambled eggs were not made freshly for me. They had clearly been made some time before and scooped into my plate like at a hotel buffet. The toast was barely toasted. The corned beef hash appeared to be leftover dried out home fries with hardly any corned beef in it. This used to be an amazing breakfast place but premade scrambled eggs have no place at a place like this. Won't be returning

We came to the Cafe for the first time on a long weekend Adk visit on advice from our motel. Ended up eating there the next 2 mornings also! The food was delicious, as well as the coffee. The atmosphere fits exactly into that region. Our server s were so kind, and although busy, they still took there time to make us feel welcome and like friends. Karissa gave a great history of the area which I can remember from childhood before it was a cafe, and Chelsea remembered us from the previous morning and just made us feel like we belonged there. It was one of the best memories from the weekend, and I am so looking forward to returning. The Adk views speak for themselves, but the people who live there are the real pleasure.

EDIT: It was so good the first time, we went back two days later and it was just as good! We were so lucky to have Chelsea as our server again!
One of the best breakfasts we’ve ever had. A must go if you’re around! Our server, Chelsea, was wonderful!

This place is a new Must- Go for our regular trips North. We went on a Tuesday around 11:30,there was no wait and we were given both breakfast and lunch menus, and we got things off both menus. Our waitress was outstanding, the food was delicious, and we will definitely be returning!

Adk Cafe has been a staple stop when in the area (local here) and have to say I hope today's experience was the exception not the rule. Waited forever for our food which was luke warm and was charged $10 for poutine that had more gravy than fries. That says a lot since it was served on a plate. Ended up getting our own to go box after waiting 15 minutes and going to the counter to pay since we never got a bill. Very disappointed
Good coffee, good food. Staff is friendly but there aren't enough of them, they aren't well-organized, and, as a result, service was TERRIBLE. But there aren't a lot of choices in Jay, NY., especially after the NY upstate pretty much closes down as winter approaches. So YES, I recommend it. Just don't go if you don't have time to wait. And if you work here? People are a LOT more patient if you get water, coffee, or cold drinks quickly. Last time were there we left because, after 10+ minutes we had never seen our server! Meanwhile one lady was loitering up front, casually more or less looking over clean glasses that had just come from the dishwasher! She could have EASILY gotten drinks/coffee for new arrivals. Just sayin'.

Food was great, cool place inside but probably took 15 minutes just to get my coffee. Other than that I'd definitely go back

Overall, a scenic stop between hiking. We ordered a pancake with whipped cream, a biscuit and egg with home fries, and the scrambled eggs with toast. The portions were incredibly generous. The scrambled eggs were fine and the bread they deemed sourdough was more of a plain piece of toast, lacking any of the distinct flavors that sourdough is known for. It was, however, generously buttered. The biscuit was ginormous, I think if I put both hands together, it would not be enough to fit it. The eggs in the sandwich needed salt and the home fries had zero seasoning. They tasted more like French fries that had been diced and roasted than anything. The pancake was paper thin, lacking that distinct diner style fluff and the flavor was fine, nothing to write home about. The whipped cream portion, however, was generous. As far as service goes, the only thing that was quick to come out was the check. At no point did our waitress check if we needed refills and the initial coffee she brought out was cold. The second coffee was hot, but by the time she brought it, we had already finished eating. Come for the portions (and adorable chipmunks), but be prepared to stay for a while.

We had lunch on the deck--wonderful being outside before it gets too cold. The corn chowder was thick and rich and full of corn and potatoes. The sandwich was delicious with a hearty portion of tasty fries. We will definitely stop by next time we're in the area.
