Opentable Diner

I had a reservation for a party of 8 on January 24th for a team gathering and the experience was beyond disappointing. Before arriving, I called to confirm the 6-course meal that includes dessert (I dined here on Jan 16th and dessert was included), but the manager I spoke to was extremely rude, insisted it didn't exist, and basically told me “just order what you ordered before” instead of actually looking into it. When we arrived, the restaurant was quiet but service was still painfully slow. We waited almost 40 minutes for a server to even greet us, then another long delay before food started coming out. We were told a cook wasn't available, and the entire dinner felt unorganized. The chef was polite but seemed exhausted and disengaged, and the food was bland and under-seasoned. Portions were also inconsistent some people got much more food than others. The whole meal felt rushed and low quality. I also placed a takeout order at the same time as our table order, but when it was time to get it, I was told the kitchen was closed. After waiting almost 30 more minutes, it finally came out missing items (no wasabi, no ginger, no jalapeño). I was told that was “the best they could do” because everything was already closed up. We spent more time waiting than eating, and for the price, this was unacceptable. If service and quality drop after a certain hour, they should close earlier instead of charging full price for half the experience. Very disappointed I won't be returning anytime soon.

Worst dining experience I've had in over a decade. This used to be my go to Benihana on Long Island, which makes this review especially disappointing to write, being my first and only 1-star review. The staff and chef clearly tried their best, and the assistant manager made genuine efforts to salvage the evening. But the service was chaotic from start to finish: forgotten orders, missed drinks, and over an hour of waiting before we even received beverages or saw our chef. At one point, the entire table was ready to walk out. I spoke with the manager and assistant manager that we would be leaving. The assistant manager attempted to solve the issue while the manager said we should all just leave. I mistakenly convinced the table not too; I now utterly regret that decision. For future context, if a manager tells you to leave then you're better off leaving. The establishment has clearly picked the wrong type of individual to be leading a service based business. The problems clearly stem from management that isn't equipped to run this location. I've always tried to stay loyal to the brand (from my first visit in California), but at this point I'll only be visiting the NYC location or an out of state Benihana. What a shame. Consider yourself warned.

We received a text that the table was ready, and it was not ready when we arrived. When we were seated, and the waiter came, we were ready to order. The waiter instead went to discuss the menu with a party of five (we were a party of 2) and then take their order before ours.

Sorry to say I found the dining experience very expensive considering I eat a lot of the Japanese steakhouses on Long Island. This was by far the most expensive.. The food was a little bit salty. The woman server we had was very sweet and nice.

This was not our first time at the restaurant, and this visit was definitely an outlier. The waitress was clearly in the weeds, and was rude! We will give it another try.

Had 6:45 reservation, waited 10 minutes. Hostess was bored and disinterested, put us down for a no show with open table because she did not care to take our name. Place is very dated and dingy. We sat at a table with 2 other couples and a family of 3 with small child. After 20 minutes server came by and looked exhausted and over worked. She took our drink and food order together. After 20 minutes she came back with random drinks for some people, then 10 minutes later a couple more. I did not get my drink for 40 minutes. Chef arrived an hour after seating to cook at table. I asked for my steak cooked medium rare and he laughed. I found out the reason is he only cooks at one temp.. well done. There was so much more awful details to tell but suffice to say we will never go back again. That was the consensus of everyone at our table. Could not wait to get out and even that took forever.

When we sat down at the table, me and my partner forks and plates were dirty it was a very long wait for us to get our drinks and appetizers. The food was poorly seasoned. The shrimp was very fishy.

Party of three. They sat us on the side of the table which we didn't like. We asked to sit in the middle and they said they needed to save it for other guests. They eventually brought a couple and three seats stayed empty. The food is a bit pricey. The server and the chef were very nice.

I love hibachi—it’s my favorite way to celebrate any occasion. So, I was excited to see that our hotel was located next to the original hibachi spot, the famous Benihana. Unfortunately, the experience was less than stellar. First, I want to start by saying the staff was very nice and courteous. However, the cost was outrageous. Everything seemed to have an upcharge. For example, hibachi fried rice, which is usually included with the meal, was an extra $7 just to upgrade from white rice—a steep price for a small bowl. The hibachi presentation was disappointing. There was no real show or interaction with the table, which is usually the highlight of the experience. The food itself was bland and extremely expensive for the quality provided. When we finally received the check, we asked to split the bill. Since the poor experience wasn’t due to bad service, we both tipped 20% on our $160 bill. However, the system charged a 40% tip, leaving the waiter with $60. Thankfully, we caught the error before leaving, but we had to wait for a refund to resolve the issue. With so many wonderful hibachi options out there, I will never return to Benihana.

I will be honest. We've been coming here for years because my son loves the food. I found a vein in my shrimp tonight and the manager was such a jerk about it. A little background-I'm on the only one who eats the shrimp on our family. And, on this particular night, while it would normally be served as an appetizer, we didn't get the included shrimp until after we had been served our entrees. There were other people - who we were sitting next to but not with - who didn't eat it. Fine. No problem with that. I even asked the chef when we would get the shrimp and he said at the end. What did bother me was I bit down into a third piece of shrimp and got the rubbery vein that I pulled out of my mouth. At this point, I had pretty much eaten my meal, and the manager came over and offer to give me new shrimp. I was full, and let's be honest, it doesn't travwl well so it's not like I could eat it the next day. He comped a milkshake for my younger son, but he was very condescending about it. “Shrimp have veins.” Yeah; that doesn't make them edible. Restaurants need to remove the veins. I'm not out of line for expecting that. Did I ask for more to be comped? Yes. And I would have been fine if he said no, but his attitude was so crappy that it took me off guard. I still tipped the waiter because I recognize it wasn't his fault and he was very apologetic. But still. Do better with customer service.

We were seated at a table for 12, which should have been a table for 10. The server appeared at the table next to us, after about 15-20 minutes and told us it would be another minute. Unfortunately, our table's drink order wasn't taken until a half our after being seated. Fortunately, we had a very helpful assistant server, who we voiced our concerns to, and he was able to bring another staff member over to take our order. The original server reappeared at the end of dinner and didn't even explain or apologize for what happened. Fortunately, the management gave us a discount on the bill. They didn't come over and apologize either. That will be my last time dining there!

Food was delicious but took over an hour to start. We had a reservation for 7:30pm and ate around 9pm.

This place is over hyped, overpriced, and completely understaffed. Service was atrocious and beyond slow! Can't remember the last time I went somewhere where the service was this bad. Asking questions about their menu apparently deserves an eye roll. The server's eyes rolled so far back you could see the whites of her eyes. The hibachi options were basically either a 5 or 6 course meal - it took 45 min before we were even served the 1st course. When the hibachi chef was finally done cooking everyone's meal, we barely had time to eat it before they were coming around with the checks basically hinting at us to GTFO. The other 2 parties left and didn't even wait/realize they didn't get their dessert. The only reason we even got ours was because we asked for it. If we didn't ask, you can bet your a$$ they wouldn't have offered it. Then paying the bill took forever! Seriously contemplating just walking out. We walked up to the manager/front of restaurant to pay it on our way out. When my father in law complained to the manager about how bad the service was he was told, "If you don't like it, don't come back!" Well F you too then! There was a family coming in with 2 young kids while we were leaving and they made a comment about the wait to be seated. We said "Yeah? Well wait till you sit down" So they were like "That bad? Forget it we'll go somewhere else!" Beyond disgusted with this place, never again! There are way better hibachi places all over the Island, you don't need to go here.
