Arrived early. Greeted by the owner who was extremely condescending stating “come back then go to the Bar” Totally lost my appetite not that he would care. Was going to have lobster. Had soup for my dinner. My part of the bill was for the soup only.
Very nice, classy but I wouldn't expect anything less from a Salvatore. Excellent food, Wonderful serve! It a good reason to dress up to go to dinner... Don't wear jeans or sneakers...it's a classy place to dine.
Waitress was excellent. Most of the food was delicious. Overall the price was reasonable, but the drinks were outrageously expensive and the oysters were extremely tiny for the price. Salmon was very good. Cheesecake and chocolate cake, yummy. The filet was undercooked but tasty. Russel seemed grumpy.
We always have the absolute best steaks at Russell's. This time was no exception. We will be again soon!
Fabulous ambiance- feels like you're on a movie set with Tony Soprano and Ray Liotta from Goodfellas.
I was so disappointed in our service at Russel's. I made reservations a month in advance and anticipated another wonderful evening. It was my Birthday and Eric, our server, was aware of it but did nothing to make it festive. We were feeling unseen as we waited for our service while he fussed over others near-by. We waited way too long for our coffee and acknowledged how well he poured but were never offered refills until we were ready to leave.
I was a bit excited to eat here considering all of the advertising. I thought it was going to be the best steakhouse in Buffalo. When I arrived, I initially asked the waiter if the steaks were prime and he said all of the steaks were prime, even though only the New York strip had the word prime about it. I thought that was a little questionable. When my steak arrived, I noticed it definitely was not a prime cut. I also asked the waiter if the ranch was homemade. He said yes. And it was definitely not homemade. The staff‘s lack of knowledge of the menu, kind of discourage me from the experience. I received my Caesar salad and it had a large piece of plastic that said three romaine hearts on it. So I'm assuming it's the plastic that wrapped around the lettuce. I asked for a waiter to come grab it assuming that a manager would eventually come. No Manager even addressed the situation. Nobody asked me if I wanted something else to replace the salad. They took the salad away from the table immediately, and nothing was mentioned of it after. Which I thought was a little strange. So I called Russell, who just so happened to be in the restaurant over to the table. I asked him if he had heard about my salad with the plastic in it. And he apparently cannot hear because he responded. Oh, you want dessert already. I just looked at my date and realized this was a lost cause. I am pretty disappointed in my experience here. I really did think it was going to be a great meal, which is what I really needed at the time.
Umberto was our waiter. He, and those who also served our table, were great! Exceptionally friendly and courteous. Thank you for an amazing dining experience!
The waiter made us feel rushed, no real conversation with the table except to take our order. Someone in our party was reading the dessert menu, waiter was putting the coffee cups on the table, would not wait for the person to move their menu and placed the cup right behind the menu and would not wait for the person to move the menu. I do not want this type of experience for food that was fair and overpriced.
Me and my wife love and care we went there twice already and we'll be going for a third time soon

Corey was amazing! Our reservation was altered after we arrived due to a no-show. We were able to have a table instead of bar seating. Food was perfect! Corey and the other servers/attendents were excellent!
Went for my 16th wedding anniversary. The steak that was served, while tender, lacked any flavor other than the overloaded salt and pepper it has been bathed in. The vegetables served accompanying the dish gave me flashbacks to the mushy overbooked frozen vegetables I used to get served in school cafeterias. While Russell is still on the floor this isn't the same place it was even as recently as a year ago.
Everything was what I expected it to be. Service was outstanding. The drinks and appetizers were very good. The main coarse was cooked perfectly and was delicious. The portion size were just right.
I had dinner there tonight. The bread was barely warm, the butter was cold and refrigerated. The 9 Oz steak was significantly smaller...it was more like a 6 Oz. The mashed potatoes was barely a spoonful and barely warm. The food quality simply went downhill. The waitstaff were great at rushing but not good at giving you the bill so you can leave. So many people were dressed in jeans and dirty sneakers it hardly felt special anymore. The little things that made Russell's special is long gone. After over a decade dining there...I won't be returning.
So I will start with this. Food was amazing and timed and cooked perfectly. Service was insanely fantastic. Ambiance was amazing, and I know some people say it is old school and goddy but that is the point. I am 57 and this restaurant brought me back to a time where people who owned restaurants took pride in the food and the service they give and the owner was actually there. Portions are huge and what we did not eat was packaged in great containers to take home. Well done, and can't wait to go back. P.s I was there taking my 21 year old and his girlfriend to dinner who both are going to school in Buffalo and even they said wow I have never had a dining experience like that.
