This is the worst work environment of any small business I’ve ever seen.

Some of the staff take their anger out on customers. One day it was because I requested no provolone on a sandwich. The cook read the order with a shocking level of anger/frustration. He was confused by that request, and the order was messed up. It’s just a sandwich but without provolone.

The waiter wasn’t fully present / aware of his surroundings.
He was dumbfounded and judgemental / hostile when I told him I was keeping my dish that only had remaining garlic butter.
It isn’t unheard of to keep a dish a little longer when it still has some food in it.

I happened to be getting over both a stomach bug and the flu. I was still weak and taking care of finicky digestion.

I just casually said I was waiting until I was hungry to order more food. The waiter was dumbfounded and just walked away, then went to the kitchen staff, who started laughing and shouting excitedly, how stupid it is to ‘wait until you’re hungry to eat’.
Bullying / ridiculing of customers?
These people are completely out of control, unaware of themselves.

The staff is not infrequently rude to customers. But some of the staff go to the level of abuse.

A lot of local businesses like to be part of the community. I haven’t seen any other business allow their staff to mistreat customers. There are enough reviews where people share they were treated with disrespect and hostility.

Why allow such unprofessional and inappropriate conduct?

And this was on New Years Eve.

The rest of the night the waiter switched between acting like nothing was wrong, and bullying. After I just paid the tab and was getting ready to go, they started blaring music in the speakers. It hurt my ears. So I informed the waiter the speaker was very loud (for a small space). He seemed not fully aware, but he criticized me, saying I wasn’t buying anything. I had just paid the bill minutes ago. He treated me like I was a bad person; you would think he was talking to someone asking for free food.
Then he finished, ‘you’ve been here a while.’ Like I was a bad person doing something deeply distasteful.

If you don’t want people to stay for an extended time, you should say so.

You can’t suddenly change the standard when you decide you want to bully.

For context, I have on some odd occasions hung out there for ~2-3 hours, listened to an audiobook, and slowly eaten off a dish. No one ever had any problem with that.

You need to communicate any change in standards. Not just move the goal post when you want to bully someone.

The meatballs are incredible and the red sauce is worth driving a long distance for. Also be prepared to go nuts in the incredibly curated little gourmet shop. Impressive all around.

Another great visit to Sharkie’s in Woodstock! We always make it a point to eat here, and it somehow keeps getting better. Stopped in for meatballs and wine while waiting for takeout, loved it so much we stayed an extra day just to come back for meatball subs. Mark is such a warm, genuine owner, and Sharkie’s is truly a safe, welcoming place for all. Bonus: we grabbed frozen meatballs as Christmas gifts and love that they can be delivered now. Can’t wait to be back! ❤️ Jim & Jeanette

My fiancé and I had another fantastic experience at Sharkie’s in Woodstock! This was our third visit to the area, and we always make it a point to eat here—it never disappoints and somehow keeps getting better.

We stopped in Sunday for a few meatballs and wine while waiting for takeout, and the server was incredibly kind and welcoming. The experience was so good we stayed an extra day in Tannersville just to come back for meatball subs on Tuesday (closed Mondays 😢).

We’ve met Mark, the owner, on past visits, but this time we finally had the pleasure of really speaking with him—such a genuine, warm person. Sharkie’s is clearly a safe, inclusive, and welcoming place for all, which makes the great food and hospitality even better. We even bought frozen meatballs as Christmas gifts and love that we can now have them delivered.

Can’t wait to be back again! Jim and Jeanette!

Amazing, indulgent meatball subs that it leave you excited from the smell as you walk by the door. This place is one of our go-to in the area for a quick bite!

Love getting a large meatball sub (3 meatballs) with cheese.

They have turkey, pork, and vegetarian options for meatballs and they’re all good.

Not really the kind of place you sit at for dinner and they close sort of early, but great for takeout and do have the option to sit in if you want.

A convenient spot. The eggplant is yummy. Go here, never to Allison’s next door, if it’s between the two.

Without prior knowledge, we stumbled into Sharkies and it was awesome! Such a special treat! The meatballs are amazing, best of my life. I took preference to the beef and pork! Mark, the owner, was so nice and friendly. I give it a 10/10.

Lamb chop

This is by far the most bland meatball sub iv ever had. Absolutely no flavor. I could buy any frozen meatball and jarred sauce and put together a better sandwich than this. I honestly don’t understand how this place has this high of a rating.

The service was great and the girl up front was very nice.

This establishment displayed outright racial discrimination toward me. After entering eager to try the food, I politely explained to the young woman named Autumn, at the front that I had just had a tooth pulled. She kindly helped me select my order, which I paid for in full. While waiting for my friend’s order, I sat down to TRY to take a small bite at the counter. Almost immediately, a male employee named Trevor, rudely ordered me not to eat there. I complied and repacked my food to go. Seconds later, that same employee openly served two white women seated less than three feet from the very spot where I had been told to move.

As an African American paying customer, I was singled out and humiliated — treatment that was blatantly racist, discriminatory, and indefensible. This wasn’t a misunderstanding; it was a clear double standard based solely on race. No person should ever experience such conduct in any place of business. I strongly urge the public to hold this establishment accountable and reconsider supporting it until meaningful action is taken against this kind of behavior.
