“I grew up in Ashland. Class of '69 from AHS. In high school we used to cruise around A&W, Red Barn, Dari Dolli across the street. After a bit of cruising. We'd meet classmates and friends at A&W have coneys & root beer floats. It was owned by local family for decades. I was told by family in Ashland, that it finally sold to someone outside the family. But that they sold the original recipes. I don't live in Ashland anymore. Live an hour north. But when I am in Ashland my very first stop is to go to A& W. Close to closing time for the winter is get a couple gallons of root beer and about a dozen footlong conveys. Take then all apart, freeze them. Then enjoy them in winter. Not quite as good a fresh but still great. A&W is a great place to frequent if local. And a great place for tourists. it has been in the same location for over 54 year. Great fun and even better food. It really is a part of Ashland's history. Love the place. Trudy Metzger-Kearns“
