Mauvette's Caribbean Cuisine

What an absolute joy this place is! As far as authentic cuisine goes, this is hands down the best in town. Super friendly staff and insanely delicious food tucked away in between a florist and an Allstate.

I’ve been here a few times now and it’s definitely already a part of my regular rotation when passing through Athens.

If you don’t know what to get, just ask! You can’t go wrong with a chicken platter or a beef patty.

I have dietary allergies so very rarely eat or order out. I’m currently in the process of moving to Athens. It’s hard to find restaurants that feel like they take me seriously and will take appropriate precautions.

Mauvette had been amazing about hearing me and steering me towards the options that work for me. This is no easy task. She has even lost sales by warning me away from a purchase. She is a gem!

Then I found out that this evening she was giving away food to anyone in need. No questions asked. Please support this business that so much supports the community!

Was looking for something new for dinner, fortunately I happened to stumble upon Mauvettes. We ordered a jerk chicken entree and lamb chops, with a side order of the fried plantains. Oh my goodness, everything was absolutely incredible! I never would’ve have imagined finding such a hidden gem in Athens. The jerk chicken had a great char while still being super tender. The spice level on it was perfect. My girlfriend absolutely loved the lamb chops, she said they were the best shes ever had. The sides of rice were perfectly cooked and the portion sizes were very generous. All this accompanied by Mauvettes lovely attitude and enjoyable presence, we 100% recommend giving this spot a try if you’re near by!

Wonderful in every way! Today we had the jerk chicken with pineapple sauce, fried chicken with bastard sauce, a spinach and cheese patty, mango guava cheesecake, and a peanut butter chocolate dessert. Everything was awesome, just like the person checking us out promised.

We were not familiar with the cuisine/menu, but the person working up front talked us through what everything was and helped us navigate a spice level we could tolerate. Thank you!

The cute little outside tables were a lovely spot for a date.

Amazing amazing food! Why haven't I found this gem earlier! Mauvette is an amazing person and her food is as good as her jolly personality!
We tried oxtail and jerk chicken with rice and vegetables and tried a sample of mashed potatoes too! Flavourful and delicious!
Definitely going back and definitely recommending to all my friends!

The food is superb, the flavour has depth and the ingredients are really good quality. The staff are very kind and very courteous to their patreons. It is very apparent that there is a lot of love and hard work that goes into each experience.

Mauvette's food is stellar! She did some catering for our event and the menu included spicy salmon scampi, lollipop lamb chops, the best chicken I've ever had, fried plantains and coconut-veggie rice. Oh, and salad for 30. All the flavors were complimentary to each other and yet each dish was a local trip to Jamaica.
Run there right now!

Can't wait to stop and get the Jerk Chicken again. It was delicious.

Absolutely one of, if not the, best restaurants in Athens. Mauvette makes everything to order and it’s phenomenal. When you walk in, she makes you feel like you just arrived home after a long time away. The first time we came, it was dusk and close to closing. She saw us on our bikes looking at her restaurant — figuring if it was open still or not — she walked out, waved us over, and invited us in for a hot meal and a wonderful conversation.

There’s something incredibly special about this place, and about Mauvette. If you haven’t been here: go now!

Bonus tip: The restaurant isn’t too far off the bike trail, so it’s worth stopping in when you’re hungry after a long bike ride!

A very quaint little take-out restaurant that serves up deliciously authentic Caribbean cuisine. It was our first time visiting and the staff couldn't have been any more kind or gracious to us. We all had jerk chicken with sauce, rice, and peas/veggies. The chicken was tender and very spicy, in a very good way. However, if you're sensitive to spiciness, then be sure to take precautions and be ready for some heat. The rice, peas, and veggies were delectable as well. The sauce on the side gave a much needed reprieve to the heat and complimented the dish very well. We will definitely be going back in the future.

The Jerk Chicken was very delicious. The spice level was perfect. I also tried a few paddies and they were great as well. Mauvette's also has some nice sodas that you can't really get anywhere else. Great food and the people were very nice as well!
