10/7/23 There were pets again today for the third time in six months at our local Giant Eagle Barberton Oh store# 4031. The manager on duty (Melissa) was questioned about this and replied "We are not allowed to ask questions or say anything to people who bring in animals". I am an animal lover myself - I just do not agree they should be allowed in our grocery stores or indoor restaurants unless they are trained service animals. These clearly were Not!
The ADA defines a service animal as a dog that has undergone specialized training to perform specific tasks for its handlers, and these tasks must be related to the handler's disability.
As the store owner, it is up to you to train your staff to permit service dogs in your establishment. many handlers place a special jacket or harness on their dog that indicates its status as a service animal. Although handlers are not required to produce any kind of documentation that verifies the dogs' service annual status, you and your staff are permitted to ask two questions of the handler:
Is your dog a service animal?
What tasks does it perform?
"The Food and Drug Administration's Food Guide lays down the law: with few exceptions, live animals of any kind are not permitted on the premises of a grocery store, a restaurant or other food establishment. The prohibition applies to dogs, cats, birds and other animals. Animals are unsanitary, and the law protects the national food supply from contamination from dog drool, urine, feces and other material that dogs carry on their coats and paws and might leave behind on store shelves or counters."
FYI, per Ohio law/code, pets are not allowed in any establishment that serves food, be it grocery stores, restaurants, etc... They are allowed on patios though, so restaurants that have outdoor seating can have dogs.
Please train your staff better to respond to this issue. Unruly barking untrained pets are Not Service Animals.

I give 2 stars. Only because I have a somewhat decent cake for my daughters birthday. 50 dollar cake and it's not what's advertised! The guy up front made it right and gave me a 10 dollar card to the store for the obvious mistakes on the cake. The colors were off, the cake itself is somewhat cute, but it isn't what I ordered. The lady who did this cake did what she wanted to the order and the cake and made it how she best could. I'm sorry for this being the best she could do. I added the display photo and you see the differences especially at the top. If your wanting something professional, please go elsewhere. I have obviously wasted my money here bc this is what I have to present to my child for her birthday. The top and colors are not right. I'm not happy and the ladies and male in the back ofth3 bakery I dealt with were not friendly and smarted off to me and were sarcastic, very unprofessional. I won't use the bakery anymore. There is nothing back there that states they can't make the cake as advertised. So I'm angry about it. You can't do it, call me ahead a day of time so I can find someone who is capable of not screwing up my order. She even added a bow to the front of it.....why ? It was not the same thing I thought I was getting, looks completely off and a bit different. So 2 stars...I'm not thrilled about it, alot of people will possibly blow it off, but when you expect things to be what you think and you have talked about it to them, you don't get what someone else wants to give you, you should get what you want. Customers need to be treated better than just whatever someone else feels like doing for the stuff they order. I'm very angry and very unsatisfied.

Jenna in the bakery did an absolutely phenomenal job on my son’s 1st birthday cake! I had an idea of what I wanted but gave her complete creative freedom and it turned out even better than I imagined. Will definitely continue to order from her from here on out! Such talent and a very sweet person!!
