While the staff and atmosphere is really great at Baru, the price is out pacing the quality of food.
After the Bengals loss Sunday, a stop at Baru perked us right up. We both enjoyed the corn ribs. Frankly, they're one of my favorite menu items there. Then my husband enjoyed his lobster handheld and I went for the tofu fried sticky rice which was such a mighty portion we shared it and I still took home Monday's lunch. We sat at the bar and enjoyed the bartender's company. My husband even went outside to invite other post-game fans to pop in the nearly-empty restaurant. They deserved a good crowd. If you haven't been, try it!
Had a rez at 5:30 and was seated immediately which was great but thats about where it ended... not even sure who our server was because they never came to greet us. The couple next to us was trying to flag someone down for quite awhile without any luck and we over heard them say they didn't even think they should tip the service had been so bad. We waited a bit longer and were probably there atleast 20 minutes before we just walked out since we hadn't been greeted or served.
Delicious food and the bartenders are great at helping you choose sake. Grab a lobster shot. Yum!
Slow Service. Very good sushi/sake. Sushi menu is much reduced from what it was. Very slow service. Baru isn't what it was.
We had a great experience! Food, Service, Vibes...all good! We will recommend Baru to our friends.
Heavily sauced sushi rolls and chicken appetizer that had no flavor. Expensive meal, very slow service - we rated it a 6 on Belly. Maybe we're jaded New Yorkers, but we've had much better and the roll prices were outrageous.
We tried 4 sushi rolls, the lobster bisque, and the chicken fried rice. Everything was outstanding!!!!
We went Tuesday for restaurant week and were blown away! The food, the service, the drinks- everything was amazing! Thursday my husband's team at work including some out of towners wanted nice cocktails and sushi after a Reds game and they handled our walk in party of 10 with ease and grace! Everyone was very impressed saying they felt like they were in New York. Tokyo Kitty is right next door so that makes for a perfect evening! Also note we had 2 gluten allergies and the were plenty of delicious options. I can't overstate how wonderful the staff are which elevates the whole experience!
Quality of sushi is great, but the fish portions are very small for the price. Service was underwhelming and slow despite the restaurant having very few occupied tables

Service is always some hit or miss weird ish wether its the host or the bartender. Food is tasty. To go portions are smaller than dine in portions but the price remains the same. Which is ridiculous. This place thinks its more high class than it actually is.

Rude and very unprofessional visited paid $50 and literally had no where to sit. Left within 15 min don’t waste your time or money

The menu has changed and is not very good. The shrimp we had was just almost wooden. On balance it was a bad experience we left, thinking we didn't need to go back.
Their Monday special on rolls, wine, and sake are unmatched!

Though happy to have a new sushi restaurant in downtown Cincinnati, the sheer size of the space - glass curtain walls, the massive bar, over-the-top fixtures- was dissonant with the sushi culture and traditions of peaceful, intimate dining. It feels more airport/casino/convention center? We're huge fans of the management group behind Baru but wouldn't return.
