Jeff Ruby's Steakhouse 505 Vine St, Cincinnati Steak House • $$$$

“I was just bragging about my Wednesday evenings at Jeff Ruby's while working in downtown Cincinnati for 2 years. We were so spoiled! We were eating the ultimate steaks and I do mean the best we've ever had steaks, sushi, cocktails and truly wicked awesome service, and last but not least, the Ambience was superb. You can actually hang around where Frank Sinatra hung with so many stars through the years and it's truly an experience! ❤️. We had the pleasure of meeting Jeff on numerous occasions, and he had a passion for the best. When my honey introduced me to Jeff Ruby's, he told me "I'll never have a better steak ever!". It's true! To this day I have not had a better steak and experience! Unfortunately, I've lost my honey but he taught me so much and showed me more than anyone ever could. I highly recommend this Jeff Ruby's Experience to anyone that can afford it!! It's definitely worth it for a special occasion, Anniversary, Big birthday. Truly Epic!!!!”

“We were here for a mid afternoon meal to celebrate a birthday. The Service was stellar, food was delicious and each person in our party of 5 loved their meal as well as the craft cocktails some of us enjoyed. It was my first experience having an apparel spritz and it was quite enjoyable. The price point per person with beer and cocktails was about $45 per person. I wasn’t sure how formal the attire would be and wore a casual dress with sandals. That was almost dressed up compared to most for the time of day, lots of shorts and jeans, if this helps anyone decide on what to wear. I highly recommend this establishment and will be going back.Dietary restrictions: The server made a point to ask if any of us had any dietary restrictions.”

Brown Bear Bakery 116 E 13th St, Cincinnati Bakery • $

“Came here with a friend who frequents this place and I'm pretty impressed. We lined up on Easter at opening and they already had a line out the door, even in the light drizzle. The line stayed that way over the next hour that we hung out there. They do sell out of items so it's best to get there as early as you can! I'm more of a sweet tooth when it comes to baked goods, but the everything bagel croissant is a must-have here. The staff heat it before serving, and it's truly the best of both worlds - the butteriness and flakiness of a croissant, with the garlic scallion seasme flavors of an everything bagel. The raspberry almond croissant is also delicious, a good balance of tart and nutty. The salty chocolate chip cookie was also good - large chocolate chunks throughout. The vegan matcha brownie was an adventurous pick; I'm usually iffy about vegan baked goods, and this one had a texture closer to a fudge than to a brownie. I liked the chocolate and mint combo but couldn't get a hint of matcha. Similarly, the raspberry matcha doodle had plenty of raspberry but 0 matcha. Overall, the limited edition matcha flavored items fell flat, but the goods off the regular menu were great and reasonably priced. The space itself is bright, large enough to seat a few small groups, and nice to hang out in. Staff are also helpful and friendly. Check this place out and stick to their bestsellers, and you'll be in carb heaven.”

If I were to recommend one place to a visitor, this would be it. Ordered the Italian sandwich, my favorite. 100% plant based. Taste is out of this world. And satisfying. If you haven't been, go! “Popped in before dinner for drinks on Friday night. Parked right out front of the spot and breezed in. After being warmly greeted by the host, we parked at the bar. The place is beautiful. Love the design choices and the blue notes. A big table carved into the back wall looks great for a group. The drinks take awhile for the staff to make, so prepare yourself. However the wait is definitely worth it. Loved every drink we had. The French 75 was light and crisp. The Peardon my French was tasty and not overly sweet. I'm not a huge rum person but would highly recommend the hibernation sour. The bit of salt and spice was fantastic. Can't wait to come back. I want to try their daytime coffee and food menu.”

“Today, 11.02.2021, a friend and l were in search of good breakfast food. Before dropping her off, we stopped at the Waffle House on Delhi Pike. The employees at this establishment were some of the warmest and friendliest group of people l have met since COVID. Fast service, our waiter Dante explained how we were able to mix and match the breakfast we had chosen. With the turn of our head, our meals were before us. The grits were freshly made, the toast was to a perfection with butter melted, everything about the meals were on point. The staff keep the restaurant clean. On their idle time they were cleaning the grill and washing down the floor, no one was standing around on their phones. I give the Waffle House ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️”

“The parking lot will tell you all you need to know. It's always packed and if it was bigger even more people would probably come. It is worth the wait though! They offer a rewards program which isn't common with the creamy whips around here so that's a nice added bonus. They are currently running a special where you can take a yard sign and earn a gift card. There are a few food options and the chili is Cincinnati style and delicious. There are a few non dairy options like dole whip and slushies. The best dish I've had here is the Reese Cup parfait. Mine is pictured without whip cream but it comes with it if you like. It has enough flavor without it for me. If you're obsessed with the peanut butter and chocolate combination then you'll love it. Lots of different and unique options for everyone.”

Cincinnati Dinner Train 2172 E Seymour Ave, Cincinnati American • $$$$

“We had a gift certificate given to us for Christmas a couple of years ago that we finally got to use. The pros: It was a really good time having dinner on the train, being entertained and hearing some history. The staff was awesome and really went above and beyond. After dinner they highly recommended to explore the train, which we did. It was quite a ride back holding on as we were walking, but it made for some good laughs. Several groups of people dressed up forties style which was very cool. I would suggest if you have a special occasion to book well in advance if you can. Some of the cons: Also I felt that the price was a little high for what you got. Drinks were about average price these days, $12 a piece and tip added another $50. Also they sat us with another couple, which I wasn't a fan of, but oh well. Another thing, don't be expecting beautiful scenery on this ride. It was a lot of graffiti on the back side of buildings and shopping centers. Lol.”

“We were given a table in the main area, the lighting was definitely on the brighter side and didn't come off as romantic. My husband and I both ordered the filet, medium rare. The food, overall, was fantastic. His filet came out medium well and dry. We pointed it out to the waiter who handled it and ordered another steak for him to be cooked properly. The manager even came over to apologize. It wasn't a huge deal, we were very understanding but it did take another 20 minutes. When we got the bill, they had actually added the 3rd steak to the tab. It was corrected when we brought it to their attention but how do you accidentally add a 3rd steak to the tab??? I'm glad my husband checked but I was fully expecting a comp of some sort on the bill for all the inconvenience. I wonder if this has happened to anyone else and they didn't catch it.”

Kroger Bakery 1 W Corry St, Cincinnati Bakery • $$$$

“I love my little ghetto Kroger. Why? Because it's mine. I've seen a man roll a huge cart of groceries/food out the side door to a waiting minivan with no shame, I've seen a hungry man just unrepentantly start eating fruit out of the produce section, I've waited 10 minutes at the meat counter for someone--anyone--to show, I've waited at the express self-checkout lane behind women who are clearly doing their monthly shop with carts of food and don't give a good GD about an item limit, I've personally been harassed by an employee half my age in the liquor store who didn't believe I was 46, and every time I'm there I see employees operating with a complete lack of urgency. I'll take this Kroger over the downtown Kroger any day of the week. Even with all the above mentioned issues, there's still a larger and more diverse selection of goods. Plus, you don't have to dodge a cluster of transients trying to hustle you for "spare" change or sell you an $8 bottle of rubbing alcohol. Kroger is a grocery store that sells groceries. If you're going for much more than that, you're asking for too much. You don't go to WalMart then rate them 2-stars because you couldn't buy a Lambo, now do you? For whatever Kroger lacks in its in-store experience/shelving/stocking/etc you should know they (somewhat) make up for it with their customer service. If you EVER have an issue with ANY Kroger, don't bother with the in-house managerial staff. They're slow to respond, ineffective, and will ignore clear issues in which they simply don't want to engage (I've witnessed it myself). You can just call the number on your receipt and you get to speak to a live customer service rep. They will escalate an issue above the site level, compelling an in-store resolution that you likely wouldn't have gotten if you'd wasted time trying to talk to someone at that Kroger (so no need to silently fume over anything). I just can't bring myself to hate on Kroger. Yes, sometimes the lines are so unpardonably long I've walked in and walked right TF back out, but it's a grocery store and human beings eat groceries. In life there are just times where you have to roll with a situation and embrace the suck. I've embraced Kroger. You should too.”

The Naan was a must with our order and the Mango Lassi was the perfect blend of refreshing sweetness! We were thoroughly impressed with the flavors and the friendly staff here. You can certainly count on us to come back very soon!”

“Our first visit to this tiny eclectic spot was just grand. With just three tables plus bar and window bar seating, we were fortunate to have a reservation. Loved the vibe — from the large velvet-draped windows to the deep blue and wallpapered walls to the gorgeous stained glass piece on the ceiling — this place feels sexy and mysterious. Our dirty martini and fig & thyme cocktails were perfectly prepared and presented in a variety (we had a few rounds) of vintage-style glassware. We started with the deviled pickled eggs topped with caviar. Nice. He greatly enjoyed kielbasa bowl, and my babcia platter provided tastes of sausage, their potato salad, and two house made pierogi. Our server also made the drinks and was delightful! We’ll return for sure.Parking: Paid parking a half block down 12th.”

“Went with my family today and was very excited to try it. They were extremely busy and every table was full but the one and only server was amazing and was running around above and beyond to make sure we had an amazing experience (she also enlisted the help of the cat eared robot to bring the food to the table, which my little brother was so excited about and was an awesome touch). We all enjoyed the create your own ramen, which was the best I have ever had. My mother is newly gluten free due to stomach allergies. When the kitchen found this out, they explained that a lot of the seasonings which contained soy may upset her stomach, they came up with the idea to use rice in the soup instead of noodles, the chef also brought my mothers soup out deconstructed with a seasoning blend he had put together just for her so she could still enjoy the flavors while carefully helping her avoid her new allergy, he was so sweet and patient and understanding. It was amazing and really showed a passion not only for food from the staff but for their patrons experience. Will definitely be going back and you shouldn’t miss the opportunity.”

“Our third visit since they opened just a short time ago and once again a wonderful experience. This for US is a true dining experience-no “ rush through dinner and get out”. If you are looking for a 30 minute start to finish, I highly suggest going elsewhere! THIS is DINING! Enjoy a cocktail, then a well paced dinner. We would normally order each course all together but were dining with elderly parents who weren't sure what they wanted. This trip we tried the Korean corn dogs( yummy) and the shrimp and lobster “ cocktail “- it was lacking in quantity of lobster for the price was our only complaint. We had to get the Caesar salad which is a MUST and it served 4 adults easily! The lamb chops were prepared to PERFECTION and we tried the mashed potatoes which had a perfect amount of potato texture, not mushy at all. I couldn't resist the scallops AGAIN and they were so delicious and LARGE so I was able to share. Absolutely loved our visit and can't wait to come back and commit to trying different dishes next time! Well worth the price for US for a date night, special occasion. “I was not sure at first about this restaurant as I was placed on hold for several minutes but when I arrived I saw why. The bartender was very busy taking orders and answering phone. She apologized for the wait and promptly took our order. The food was excellent !! Fish chicken combo, potato and onions and greens( spicy) Kudos to this establishment and best of luck!!! I will be returning!!”
