We were not prepared for the elegant atmosphere of China gourmet. A neighbor said that we should stop here for good Chinese food. So we hopped on our motor scooter and wrote on down to Hyde Park from Kenwood. We arrived about 7 p.m. The atmosphere is subdued good taste, with quiet background music. Cloth tablecloths, heavy flatware in cloth napkins, tables nicely spaced not too close to one another with attractive chairs having carved ornamentation on the back (see the picture). My wife ordered the shrimp with lobster sauce plate, I ordered the Alice's scallops and shrimp on fried noodles. Food portions were just right, my wife brought home some of hers and the white rice didn't finish, but I was able to very slowly finish the scallops and the shrimp and the delicious vegetables. The shrimp was amazingly large, and the scallops were perfectly done, not at all rubbery, cooked just right. Seasoning was mild for my plate. I thought the lobster sauce in my wife's order was a little salty for me, but she didn't agree.
.
Service was excellent, attentive but not too much so, and very polite.
.
The several tables of patrons and the larger group were all seated well apart and I'm sure we all felt we had privacy.
.
I just had water, but my wife was tickled to find some wine from the Loire Valley, this was a Rosé, She thought it was light hearted, not sweet, with a soft finish.
.
We will be back, and hope to bring friends along.

As always the service was impeccable as was the food. Did not have one of our “ usual “ dinners. Opted for the ahi tuna special which was delicious! Everything at China Gourmet is always “spot on”!

Food was decent but not worth the price point. Staff smoking outside which is hard to miss as you walk in. Front of house has some challenges. Live music and overhead music played at the same time causing an battle of the background music that was grating. Too many people working the same tables caused repetition and disruption to the dining experience. Martini was watered down and the single olive was old and tastes off. The Lotus salad special was excellent.

Tried China Gourmet for the first time last night on a whim. Been by 100's of times but have other go to (mostly seczhuan) places I go to. The restaurant itself is very appealing and decorated in a very attractive manner. I opted to sit at the bar where there were two other gents plus the bartender. We all had very nice conversation and his service was most excellent and attentive. I was taken back at the pricing on the menu but happened in on a Monday and found they had a "choose your own noodle" specials with a large variety of options to create my on fixins'. I opted for the pan fried noodles with beef and a little bit of everything on the veggie list with brown sauce, a long island ice tea. The Drink was excellent, packed a nice bang and a fair price. At first I was taken aback at the taste of the beef wondering if it wasn't spoiled but was explained that it is marinated in red wine which made perfect sense given the taste. No issue there. I really didn't want to complain but the noodles were burnt around the edges and the brown sauce was overly salty. I took home an order of fried rice. It too was very salty and the rice was very underdone. way too chewy in the center and very dry over all. I will give them another try, could have been an off night but truthfully they are 4-6 dollars more per meal, more than most other definitively authentic places. We'll see how trip two fares in the future.

Had a wonderful meal with ear friends at China Gourmet. We had our usual steamed walleye which they filet table side. We paired it with the outstanding green beans. We will continue to treat ourselves to this gourmet experience on many more occasions.

I originally went to China Gourmet in the early 1980s and have visited hundreds of times over the years. During this time I've never looked at a menu and have always been treated with wonderful food! To my surprise Matt has continued with the tradition Bing Moy started many years ago. The food was a delight and the service was outstanding. I strongly suggest you visit and just ask “what's good tonight?”. You won't be disappointed.

My wife and I have been enjoying China Gourmet for 39 years. They now I have a new chef and have introduced new dishes which are even better than the classics. They continue to be my favorite Chinese restaurant in the region and I think that they are well deserving of the annual rating of being the best in the area by Cincinnati Magazine, which they seem to earn every year. Just a wonderful experience and terrific food.

Mondays they have a "create your own" noodle dish special. It was fun and inexpensive... The food was fantastic, the cocktails were great, but what I DO want to stress is that with an APPARENT shortage of staff, our server (who was also the food runner AND the bartender...) handled everything (and I mean everything, shy of cooking) professionally and in a relatively timely fashion. I am thoroughly impressed with Joe Mac, our server/runner/bartender who kept a great attitude during our visit assuring that our party of 5 still had an enjoyable experience.

This was our third try with this restaurant, it apparently gets worse every time! As we approached the entry from the parking, we are greeted at the door by the “smoker's lounge” (a dirty little corner hole that had make-shift seating) and 3 disgusting people puffing away. I'm not sure if these were even patrons of the restaurant, and I certainly hope these were not employees, completely gross at any rate. Going in, the place is still too dark and creepy (so no remodel, as I was hoping for) and there was no host around. Finally the bartender seats us next to some poor dad with 4 out of control little kids in an area that acted like an echo chamber. Water was poured and the bartender disappears. We sit there for literally 10 minutes, not even seeing anyone who might work there. Finally, we decide to leave, and as we pass the bar on our way out, the same bartender says, “you all have a great evening”, sounding as if he never remembered seating us 10 minute earlier. What the..? Please don't go here. Maybe it will go away.

As delicious as the food is, this place is terrible with customer service.Every time I dine in or call in to carry out, it tests my patience. The last time I ate in house it took over an hour for the food to come to the table for a part of 3, with the waitress only appearing twice (to take the order and to collect the bill). Each time I call in, I’m told it’ll be 30+ minutes, only for me to arrive at that timeframe and wait another 20+ minutes. When you try and ask someone if my orders ready they disappear and never come back. Eventually another person shows up but when you ask the same question they too disappear. My suggestion, if you’re already hungry go somewhere else. If you’ve just eaten and would like Chinese, by all means wait and by the time you can order or get the food you’ll be hungry.

We have been coming here for years and brought our family to celebrate the Chinese New Year. The food was excellent and our waiters were friendly and accommodating. One waiter surprised our granddaughter with specially made chicken nuggets when he noticed she wasn’t eating. The kids loved the DRAGON!

Had a 5:30 reservation before a play on a Saturday night. Was asked booth or table and regret not saying booth as we were sat at the worst table in the place while there were still many other open tables. The table was at the entryway to the main dining and my view was to an open stocking room/kitchen entryway. The table was not clean and had crumbs all over it. I also recommend boxing up your food yourself as the waiter threw large chunks of food all over the table and on my purse when boxing up our food. We have gone here for many special occasions in the past and were disappointed to see the atmosphere and staff training decline so much. We will not be back.

Girl working reception is absolutely disgusting. Rude to all customers and laughs at simple questions. Whoever was answering the phones on 01/13/24 was so rude and unprofessional.
