Hook's Fish and Chicken has a few locations. So far I have tried but two of those locations. The Colerain Ave. location was very good. It's the 1920 Linn St., Cincinnati, Ohio that this low scoring review is in reference to.
Here's why the 1 star rating. I called to pre-order for pickup. My timing was perfect, and the order was just being boxed as I was paying, so this is not from someone who let the food sit awhile. I took said food home in an insulated container. When I got home and opened the food it was still hot.
What I found was totally unacceptable, and why I'll never order from the Linn Street location ever again.
Inside was 2 orders containing a total of 5 pieces of fish. Of the 5 pieces, only 1 of the 3 cod had been freshly cooked, and both of the Ocean Perch were as shriveled and over-cooked as were all of the other pieces of over-cooked fish in the order.
The badly shriveled, dry, and over-cooked pieces had obviously been pre-cooked at some point, and when they did not sell - were then quickly refried and added to my order that contained only 1 piece of freshly cooked fish.
This was on a Friday evening, at rush hour, and you can tell that in an effort to get ahead that this bad practice of frying, and then refrying, is how they planned to be ahead of any rush... a rush that I didn't see while I was there picking up their old and stale food.
I see for myself that Hook's Fish and Chicken uses a decent quality of fish in their locations. I also have tasted how their breading and frying oil are of top quality for fast food. But in the Linn St. location it's the staff that manages to foul up what should have been a quality meal.

I love this place. The food is more like home cooked style food. Not mass produced fast food trash. It was worth the 10-15 minute wait. If they ask you if you want the lemon pepper, the answer is yes! It is delicious and goes on everything they serve here.

This location is something else. She gets an attitude, she cuts you off when you try to talk, she don't refund anybody money when they mess your order up, they have a website that she says she doesn't use but the orders coming to that store. She likes to argue with you about your food. Can't wait until the linn st location reopens because avondale location is cray.

The owner is very kind, the food is delicious, and I pray that this restaurant is blessed with success! Every bite is juicy, crispy, and tasty! The owner was so kind to my daughter, and when he learned we were traveling from out of state, he went above and beyond to take even more care of us. Absolutely will stop by here every time we drive through town! I had the pick 2, with catfish and tenders. My wife had the turkey burger with fries, and my daughter had the chicken nuggets.

A kid throw up right in front of the door. Nobody cleaned it up, I order a cheese burger and fries, my fries was burnt, the cook put them back in the fryer after I touched on them. I asked for a fresh order the cook gave me some more burnt fries. I asked for my money back. Never again will I returned.
