My fiancée and I were genuinely excited to visit this establishment. She had done some research and was delighted to learn that the bar was themed around Tokyo (of course), with specific nods to Lost in Translation. In the spirit of the theme, my fiancée thoughtfully wore a pink wig, similar to the one worn by Scarlett Johansson’s character in the movie.
We were there for about two hours, but unfortunately, what started as an exciting evening quickly turned uncomfortable. My fiancée began to feel uneasy, as she noticed multiple staff members staring at her in a hostile, suspicious way. We later discovered that the bar is decorated with similar pink wigs placed on mannequin heads- and, shockingly, the staff had assumed she had stolen one.
Rather than approaching her with any courtesy or even just asking about the wig, they chose to talk about her openly and negatively, all while continuing to glare. Thankfully, my fiancée overheard some of the accusations and rude comments and was able to clarify the situation with the owner, showing the digital receipt for the wig on her phone as proof that it was her own.
Unfortunately, instead of receiving a sincere apology, she was met with a dismissive response and was essentially brushed off by the manager. We felt so uncomfortable and disrespected that we decided to leave early and we have not returned since.
I found it odd that after looking around the bar, we realized that every single mannequin head within the space had a pink wig on it. None of them were missing, so I am genuinely confused as to why they simply assumed that she stole it.
What an odd and disappointing way to treat someone who was so excited to visit your venue that she took the time and effort to dress in theme. A bit of kindness and communication would have gone a long way... instead, the night left us feeling judged, embarrassed, and very unwelcome.
Omg I will always go to Tokyo Kitty any time I’m going out in Cincinnati! Went here for my Bachelorette trip night 1. Had a blast!!!
The bartender (black man) was unbelievably kind and made the entire experience enjoyable. Karaoke is not for me, but I will go back just because of the stellar service.
I absolutely LOVE TK ❤️. Point blank period 🤗. Wether ur doing main bar karaoke or private room karaoke, the staff and atmosphere are just awesome! Perfect place for parties too. I drive for Uber and always suggest this place to folks visiting our city for conferences and such. Go play there! That's an order 🤸🏾♀️.
We came in on Saturday 8/23 for a birthday and got a private room. I didn’t catch her name but the girl who helped us was so great and then Church was so great. He took great care of us and was overall just super fun to talk to. I loved the staff they made us feel so welcomed and made sure we had a great time. I will definitely be coming back and recommending to friends! Drinks were delicious, speedy, and reasonably priced for the in-house high quality.
The waitresses here seem to be on a real power trip. Instead of making customers feel welcome, they come across as rude and dismissive. It felt like they were more interested in asserting authority than providing good service. Definitely not the kind of atmosphere that makes you want to come back.
They must have no A/C or it's broken or something. Get ready to sweat.
Fun experience
If I could give 0 stars I would. My boyfriend and I showed up in the early evening and grabbed a table, and had three other friends met us. After hours of being there, two women tried taking our table with our stuff. My boyfriend went to move our stuff and his chair so he could still sit. A whole ordeal came about with two these women over it to where one of them called a bouncer on my boyfriend. The bouncer never once let him tell his side of the story, just kept telling him to calm down when he wasn’t even getting erratic. Very much a one sided thing, man vs woman. Tokyo kitty, you should be ashamed on how you let this bouncer handle this situation.
I don’t appreciate the way that I was treated by the staff tonight. I was made to feel like an asshole & had to leave because of some complete BS. I have a physical disability and, due to the nature of the offense, will be looking into further repercussions - but at the least I’ll do my best to make sure that no one I know will come to this establishment again.
Restaurantji Recommends
It's a Kool lil' spot.
Great time! The small room says it fits 6 but it was a little cramp, would realistically fit 4-5 comfortably. The large room was great, and would recommend booking a specific weekend night 4-6 weeks in advance for an ideal timeframe (8-10pm)
Staff lacks basic manners
So when I booked the room I got an email saying it was confirmed. Then got another email saying I need to pay more money is confirm the room. Super confusing and sketchy. Anyways we get there and they say pay extra AGAIN. I’m like whatever. AND they cannot take care there or Apple Pay. Thank god I had my card on me and could input it into their online system. The room itself was super nice. My friends and I had a great time by ourselves. BUT my friend got cut off unfairly in our opinion. She was laying back on the couch and reading and singing the karaoke. The bartender said because she was laying back she was too drunk. Idk seemed unnecessary. Anyways. It’s the only karaoke bar in the city so can someone open a better one please?
I came to this karaoke spot and was here for 20 minutes — barely enough time to even settle in. The service was slow, so I spoke up about it like anybody would. The server Ryan clearly got mad about it and went to gossip with his coworkers instead of handling the situation like a professional.
Then while I’m in the middle of singing and enjoying myself, he suddenly comes in saying he “can’t serve me” because I’m “drunk.” Sir — I JUST got here. It felt like he didn’t like seeing me have a good time, and when I stood up for myself, he made it personal.
I don’t care how drunk, how gay, or how whoever he is — what he did was unprofessional, petty, and felt targeted and racist. He acted like it was an issue for me to exist there comfortably.
Whole place had weird energy after that, and I would not recommend it to anyone Black or anyone who wants to have fun without being harassed.
