Sophie La Gourmande

We visited today and had a fabulous experience. The staff was helpful and friendly. The cafe itself was well appointed (actual silverware, not plastic), water carafes available along with lemon slices for no extra charge, clean, bright - even the soap in the bathroom smelled wonderful! But the almond croissants were amazing. Not to sound pretentious, but we've eaten almond croissants in Paris and they didn't even come close to the greatness of what we ate at Sophie's. The latte I had and the espresso my husband had was also delicious. We were in the area, traveling across the great divide from the west side of the county, and are so glad we stopped in. It would be a challenge to the waist line if we lived closer but we will certainly add regular visits to Sophie's even if it's just for coffee and an almond croissant. Also, the painting of Sophie at the front door is wonderful. Our own Sophie-dog crossed over the rainbow bridge last year so the painting was extra special to us. Run, do not walk, to this wonderful cafe.

Today, I was at Sophie for lunch to celebrate my friend’s birthday. I had been to Sophie couple of times for coffee and pastries. The croissants are very delicious especially almond ones.
Knowing that, I made an assumption that their light lunch menu would be as good. My friend had vegetable quiche with greens, I had broccoli cheddar soup and three market vegetables. My soup was good but came with a piece of dry bread, cauliflowers were almost raw, lentils were also undercooked, no dressing, no taste. Also, staff was not friendly, no greeting. I was not impressed at all.
I will definitely go there but only for croissants because they are the best!

Local fav. The sides and main dishes are scrumptious and the atmosphere is airy and light. Recommend you eat every bite real slow. Also love the diversity in age and all -true Lee Road chic!

Excellent espresso and croissants

Have to write this review even though this was 3 years ago but I think about it to this day. I had went here and left a Green Tory Burch Purse here with a Gucci wallet in it. I had when to multiple stores this day. I realized my purse was missing a few days later and went to every store trying to find it, but this store was not open and I was convinced that I left it in the car or someone stole it at my apartment building, not sure. Anyways about 3 months later after calling this store everyday for weeks I finally got someone to pick up. I told them I lost an expensive purse and a Gucci wallet. The man that answered the phone told me yes, he had seen it and given it to the owner or manager to hold on to. I cried tears of joy. I get there just for the owner/manager to tell me that they somehow must have gave my purse and wallet to goodwill.. Imagine a 500$ purse and 300$ wallet and they say it went to goodwill because it was there so long. But somehow they managed to save my credit card and ID, thanks guys! I am sure it ended up going to someone’s wife or daughter as a gift because there’s no way they sent 800$ worth to good will. At the time I was a college student at JCU and worked really hard to buy these items for myself so I was absolutely distraught. Anyways don’t eat here, these people are awful people, there is no excuse. Yes it was my fault for leaving the purse there for so long but a decent human would have kept it, especially when you have my name and contact information from my ID, they could have made an effort to reach out. Very sad stuff, probably will make a tiktok about it soon because truly I think about it every day, so will come back on here to say when I post it. Anyways the people that work here are seemingly awful people and I will never forget what they did to me as a 21 year old college student with no money.

EDITING to respond to this: No I was never messaged, you guys told me you “DMed me on Instagram” which was not true as I do not have Instagram. Also I was NEVER given my wallet back so I am unsure where this information is coming from. Yes as I stated it was partially my fault for waiting a few months as I could not get ahold of anyone and was unsure where my purse and wallet were. No my wallet was never returned (although my debit card and passport were which were inside of my unreturned wallet) nor my purse that somehow just went missing. Yes I did contact police and heartbreakingly nothing could be done. Thank you for your sentiments, not sure how a 500$ purse and 300$ wallet went missing with items removed but thank you again for your sympathy

I had the best fish fry dinner of my life at Sophie. The fish was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The fries were excellent, too. I also got a side of Mac and cheese, which was also amazing.

It’s clear the dinner was prepared with a lot of care. The service was friendly and the restaurant is bright and clean. Overall, a very welcoming environment.

I plan to return to Sophie soon to try some bakery items. And I will definitely be back for another fish fry!

Delicious pastry and lunches

Offers a nice, but relatively small menu, that Is not cheap. Some staff nice, some unfriendly, but the atmosphere is bright & clean.There are other bakeries I much prefer to go to.

Asked for the ham and Gruyère sandwich minus the ham - and which is almost $10 - and this is what I received.

Emailed the owner who responded nicely, but did not address what I wrote to him. I’ve never been on social media and have written few reviews over many years. Perhaps you’ll have a better experience.

Quite honestly the best chicken salad on croissant I’ve ever had. I also had a chocolate croissant, which I warmed this morning for brekkie. I think I may go back today to get another sandwich.
