I didn’t rate the food because I was there for 40th Cleveland Heights High School reunion for drinks and outside-catered food. What a fantastic bar / lounge! Several great indoor spaces, and a secluded and inviting outdoor back patio with its own bar. Very cool bar, check it out.

hey guys, I don’t visit this place like I used to in the past. I used to go for Poetry faithfully however it’s changed a bit. I have stopped going because you could barely hear the artist because of all the noise and then they charged a cover charge and sometimes the artist wasn’t that great for a 10$ cover. Never really got exceptional bar Service over the years.. so now, I really just go if there is an event of someone I know

I've been here a few times for poetry night, karaoke and a concert. It's very grungy almost a chill, dirty vibe if that makes sense. Drinks are decent and you'll meet all kinds of people here. The setup is small and intimate. Like you could touch someone on the stage easily kind of thing. Even though this is far from the upper scale places I'm accustomed to, I always enjoy myself.
Went to see Sammy DeLeon and his quartet Sunday night. Great, intimate atmosphere for Jazz. Sammy has been the king of Latin Jazz in Cleveland for years, and we are lucky to be able to see him in such a great venue every month (First Sunday of the month).
would love to rate this place higher because the event was very fun, but the bartender that was wearing the red hat the other day was extremely rude and condescending, snapping his fingers in our faces and refusing to serve my friend a drink, making rude comments to all of us completely unprompted. i left my phone accidentally at the bar for under a minute and was repeatedly calling and searching for it only to find out that it was up at the bar all night long and we call after the event and speak to another employee to get it back (i was in plain site in front, left for less than a minute). very clearly made our drinks terrible as well. then i get home to find out that the bartender swapped my card with someone elses and gave me the wrong card and probably mine to someone else. completely just unprofessional and a very weird experience. probably will not come back due to this when i otherwise would have.
update:
have contacted staff and nothing came of it! i think defending rude thieves isn't a great look lol

bartender was rude to me, my bf, and friends when we were ordering for the 1st time that night. i ordered 4 drinks: 3 vodka cranberries and 1 blue hawaian. bartender yelled at me and said that he was "only going to make 1 drink at a time" i told him that was fine. he then batched the 3 vodka cranberries and kept complaining to me while doing it. i told him he did not have to get an attitude with me, to which he said he was "joking", i assume to get a tip. he was very noticabley hostile and clearly not "joking". nothing he did or said was a "joke", he was aggressive and hostile from the 1st interaction. not sure what part of that is a "joke". he snapped his fingers at me when i turned to my friends to ask a question. he was rude the entire interaction and i did not understand why. when he asked me what vodka i wanted and i replied "i don't care" he said "you look like you drink well." then gave us well drinks. simply because i did not specify which vodka brand i wanted. i'm fine with the cheap option, but his comment made it a very clearly rude gesture, just because i didn't name a specific vodka brand. because i genuinely don't care. i normally tip people well, and i was confused why someone who works for tips was needlessly being rude when his payment depends on his service. once i paid and received my drinks, i realized he had only made the 3 vodka cranberries and not the blue hawaiian. my boyfriend then proceeded to order the blue hawaiian for our friend, and said that he wanted top shelf liquor for it, directly in response to the bartender making the rude "well drink" comment. bartender proceeded to say that it would be a "$20 drink" which my boyfriend said he knew and agreed to. bartender then continued to be rude to my boyfriend, he used a card that was not yet set up, so the card declined. bartender started being rude AGAIN, saying that the card didn't work. my boyfriend then gave the bartender cash to pay for the drink, which he asked "what am i supposed to do with this?" my boyfriend then proceeded to explain that cash can be used to pay for a drink. when the bartender brought my boyfriend's card back to him and my boyfriend went to grab it, bartender grabbed his hand and said "that's the wrong card, babe" then handed him back the wrong card. at the time we didn't check, but now as i am writing this review we know that he handed my bt a card that was not his and kept the one that was. i gave him my card to close out the payment. when my friend got the $20 drink, it was disgusting and clearly mixed bad on purpose, despite us paying extra for it. then, we later noticed that my bf did not have his phone. we attempted to call the phone, but no one would answer. i had to call the venue when they were closed to ask if a phone was found. the employee told me our phone was there so i went back to get it. same bartender came to me and gave me the phone saying he "didn't want to see it get stolen". i took the phone and left, later we realized the wrong card had been given to my boyfriend. i called and let the person working know the situation, and she checked where lost cards are usually at. she did not find my boyfriend's card, and given all interactions that happened on this night, it really seemed like the bartender intentionally took the card. the person whose card we received never called the bar to report a lost card, which the staff also found odd, so in guessing the bartender intentionally gave us an old card that had been there for a while. we have called the grog shop since this incident and left messages complaining and saying that this bartender clearly stole from us after being rude, and we have not received a response. you should not be hiring people that steal from people and are ignorant. we had a great time at the event other than the experience with staff. we will not be returning to the grog shop exclusively because of this experience

3 stars is for the venue. 1 star for being misled. Would have loved to come back. First time in OH, I should have asked to peak in before paying 40 dollars. Walked in and walked right out because i like to mingle and club at the same time but there were no real opportunities for mingling tonight. Requested the 40 bucks back with a promise to check the club out again...very nice lady at the door said no. She is nice but she could have asked the owner of the event first. So now I will avoid this club with no chance of giving it a second chance. Downtown west 6th street has a similar but livelier crowd.
