If you google Cowell & Hubbard you will find a small blurb posted right below their name that reads, "Upscale eatery serving innovative gourmet bites in a renovated, turn-of-the-century space." YES. What a perfectly unassuming summation of a delightful place to dine. My family and I were visiting the Cleveland area and were curious about Cleveland's up and coming restaurant scene. After reading an abundance of online reviews of a wide variety of establishments, Cowell & Hubbard appeared to be the right choice. I strongly recommend making a reservation well in advance as we had to finagle some things in order to get one for our party of three. Our reservation was scheduled relatively close to opening and we were seated right away. Our server approached quickly and proceeded to tell us of the evenings specials and take our drink orders. Two cocktails and one soft drink. Cocktails were prepared and delivered quickly and were delicious. I definitely recommend their Long Island Iced Teas. At this time, our order for both starters and entrées was taken. For starters my husband chose a potato and leek soup that he still swoons over to this day (I gotta get the boy back to Cleveland!). And, of course, the world-famous Crispy Pork Stack. The soup was amazing. Creamy and silky and abounding in flavor. The chef was able to pull so much flavor into this decadent bowl of soup. And the Pork Stack. Don't get me started on the Crispy Pork Stack. This thing is heaven on a plate. Had I known how we would fight over every forkful; I'd have ordered three! And what makes it so special is almost indescribable. All I can say is that it is layer after layer of flavor and texture and happiness. MUST ORDER. As far as entrées we ordered the seafood special, a steak dinner, and an extraordinary bowl of ramen. I won't spend an abundance of time detailing each entrée. Suffice it to say that everything was delicious, expertly prepared, and partnered with the perfect accompaniments. For dessert, we ordered a variety of sorbets that rounded out the entire experience and left us completely satisfied. Overall, our experience at Cowell & Hubbard was an exceptional one. And to be honest, I'd say the same if we'd only opted for drinks, apps, and desserts. Everything was that good. So yes, if you are in fact looking for an upscale eatery serving innovative gourmet bites in a renovated, turn-of-the-century space, Cowell & Hubbard is your place. And again, I reiterate - CRISPY PORK STACK. That's really all you need to know.

this is one of my favorite fine dining places downtown. I LOVE the huge velvet red booths, its a classic staple that nobody else has, the ambiance is just unbeatable. I have wonderful memories from my childhood of eating a delicious meal here before going to the theatre with my family. If you are looking for a nice place to eat downtown for a date night, special occasion, or just because, go here. you will not regret it. :)

I ordered a glass of Sauvignon blanc which was crisp and cold. For my meal I ordered the crispy chicken livers salad which was dressed well, but the chicken livers were a bit bland. I also got the seafood dumplings which turned out to be a bit different than I expected from the menu description.

I enjoyed the evening I spent here it was me and my partners first “official” date night! On the appetizer side of this I had the French onion dumplings and the vegan samosas! For dinner I had the vegan shepherds pie!! Amazing!!! The service was great! Lightening and decor is everything! Definitely a place to try for anyone looking for some fine dining done right!

Wonderful place to have dinner before a show at Playhouse Square. This was my second time eating here, both dinners were before seeing shows. The service is quick enough to get you to the show but relaxd enough that you never feel rushed. This visit was during restaurant week where there is an offering of a 3 course menu for $33. I got the prefixe and choose the Frisee salad (normally $10), a pasta dish with mussels (Pasta of the day, unknown al la carte price), and creme brulee (price not listed on online menu). My husband ordered off the normal menu, he got a Crispy Pork Stack and the Braised Lamp Middle Eastern Style. All the dishes were terrific. Anytime we have time to go out to dinner before a show, you'll probably find use dining here.

Amazing dining experience and serendipitously got a table during restaurant week. Killer 3 course meal/wine pairing that had me craving more. Atmosphere was formal but relaxed with a variety of guests ranging from theater goers to university students. Definitely the restaurant to check out if one is in playhouse square
Our experience was quite good. The food was delicious and we booked this reservation for dinner before a show. We arrived fifteen minutes early, advised of our plans to the staff, and they readily seated us. The staff was friendly and helpful. While our main meal seemed to run a little behind schedule, the manager was apologetic and in the end, did not cause us to be late to the show. Absolutely I will return and recommend this place: it helped created a really nice evening for us all.

Nice space and excellent service. Although the food was very good, portions were small and pours for the drinks were flat out stingy and not indicative a restaurant charging top end prices. Also, no bread service is a bad look.

This was our first visit, but won't be our last. We had tickets to an 8pm show. When we told this to our server he assured us we would be on time. Three small plates, one shared entree and two deserts were all very well prepared, and more importantly very tasty. Really enjoyed the Crispy Pork Stack, and the Sea Scallop special. Service was impeccable, couldn't ask for more.

We had a lovely meal - we ordered items from the Restaurant Week Prix Fix menu. My pasta was amazing - the butter sauce was light and flavorful with lots of mushrooms and zucchini. My husband's cod was cooked perfectly and the pickled onion accents were very tasty! I hadn't had their creme brûlée before and it was wonderful. Our server was helpful and charming.

Was a great environment and the food was outstanding. They were able to make something that was kind of on the menu, but was specialized to something I really wanted and it was an amazing meal. Definitely will be back.
Always great food and drinks!
