Really good food that is more authentic than most American chinese restaurants. Very good portion size and fairly priced. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that the service tends to somewhat inconsistent. I’ve never had a bad dish here and would specifically recommended the eggplant in garlic sauce.
A lot of authentic items to choose from, we order fried rice, tofu with vegetables and Szechuan fish. however, it is a little salty from my taste bud, hope they can get improved when i come next time.
We enjoyed Szechuan Gourmet on East 36th in Cleveland. solid meal!! Chicken with Cashew , Spicy Sliced Beef with veggies and some Crab Rangoons. enjoyed it ( wife found it a little salty )
Having lived in China for awhile, I usually classify Chinese food in the States into 2 categories: American and authentic. American Chinese food can be good if that's your mindset going in, but it's not necessarily what you'd get in China. Szechuan Gourmet is the authentic Chinese food and it is delicious. Service (pre-COVID) was always great. And the prices are respectable. Do visit the grocery next door. Don't use the restroom!
Travelling from the PNW/Seattle area where Chinese restaurants have to be top drawer to stay in business. Popped in here to see what the food and Asian grocery store scene is like in Cleveland when visiting colleges with my high schooler. Pleasantly surprised. Ordered the dry sauteed string beans with garlic and the Sauteed chicken with bamboo shoots. Service was fast, food came up fairly quickly (slow Tue night). The green beans were sauteed a tad long and the oil temp wasn't quiet high enough. Green beans should've been blistered by the hot oil and almost crunchy (think pasta that's cooked al dente). Surprised by the sesame oil. I like sesame oil but it's usually not in vegetable dishes because the flavor is pretty strong and overpowers the veggy flavor. The chicken and bamboo was excellent. THe bamboo shoots were super tender with no tough pieces that had to be spit out. Flavor was good with a nice moderate level of heat. Rice was a bit firm. Not super sticky. Tea was hot and moderately strong. Didn't check the bathrooms. Two dishes = $25 and left full and satisfied.
Our friends surprised us for Christmas Day by taking us here. And what a time we had. After our meal we then went next door to experience the great supermarket ! What a day we had.
