NEVER OPEN !! Came her because Google said open. Really NOT OPEN. called phone rings off the hook. It's Thursday. Not a holiday. This lady opens & closes when she feels like it. I won't try it. I'll go to Lydia's. She's open more than this place.

I’ve been eating Mertie’s Hungarian Strudel since I was a kid. Some of the best strudel I have ever had. Homemade, thin, flaky dough, tasty fillings, absolutely delicious!

CASH ONLY - totally worth it. Super sweet lady helped me. They had three flavors available. Reasonably priced. Lady suggested calling ahead around the holidays, otherwise walking in and ordering is usually safe. Pastry was awesome!!! food didn't last, we ate it all so fast! Going back for more soon!

I came in to pick up some strudel for a birthday present for a friend. I have been here before and the bakery is great, however, the shop owner was extremely rude. She proceeded to tell me she had nothing for sale. I asked why have the open sign on. She proceeded to scream at me that she had 1 $190.00 order to be picked up and if they sign was down they would not come in. I suggested to put a sign stating pick ups only. She proceeded to scream at me that she does not need to do that. I used to think that this woman baked with angels. Now I feel after this experience, she is the fallen angel. She was rude the first visit and I gave her a pass. The second visit, was not pleasant. With that attitude, she deserves this review. She was NOT a nice, helpful and friendly woman as another poster claims- that post is suspect because Kiddy Park is nowhere near this place. Not even a skip and a jump away. I don't know if I ever was treated like this as a customer. I still needed that Birthday strudel. Gina at Gentiles hooked me up. Better service there. And they HAVE PRODUCT TO SELL. Face it folks, we work hard for our money, even this Satanic strudel maker, do you need to be screamed at while wanting to purchace a product? Not my fault she has limited products. She had the balls to tell me that she gets up at 5am and I need to be there at 8am to get any of her products. Seriously, she screamed that at me. Go somewhere else unless you really, reallyand I mean really want this. Be in line at 8am with cash.

Great Strudel. If you like Strudel and are on the west side of Cleveland then this is the place to go.

This shop has the most incredible pastry I've ever had. The struedel is flaky and crispy yet melts in your mouth. So delicious. Not super sweet or sticky. True artisan craft. The struedels come in like a long flat loaf, where the struedel is wrapped around the filling. You buy a half or a whole. Not individual slices altho they will slice it for you if you want.Pro tip: You can also buy them frozen and then bake at home. There are more variety of flavors in the frozen ones, where the ready-to-eat might only be the three flavors of the day.The baker is a true gem. She mentioned she learned to make struedel in 1962 and the family shop has been in business for 42 years.

The BEST strudel in the US. Wish it were near, but if it were, I’d be eating one a day!

There is none better or equal. Once you go to Merties you won't go anywhere else. I'm addicted

Outrageously good. I had never been through this part of town, but needed to run an errand after going to Memphis Kiddie Park, passed this shop, and stopped on a whim. Most of the other customers were picking up orders placed in advance, but Mertie (who was extremely friendly and welcoming) said she happened to make extras that morning. Luckily I happened to have cash, and made off with a cherry and apple strudel. Everything is made by hand. Will be visiting again the next time I'm in town.

Wonderful strudel! But you better get there early otherwise you're out of luck.
