Eastern European and Croatian food in probably its original building. Portions are generous. I had the Wiener schnitzel and easily enough for two meals. The goulash is equally good and be sure to not miss the wonderful pies. Real tablecloths-something you don't see very often in restaurants anymore. If you are an Eastsider who is missing Balaton, then this is the place you should go. 20 minutes from the Shaker Square area.

My kind of place!!! Eastern European comfort food. Both of the food and the service was great. Truly a hidden gem. Wheat for lunch and got the combo plate. Good Lord!! Easy two meals worth of food. My new favorite place!!

I would like to give this restaurant 6 stars!!! It's a hidden gem! Very homey...with excellent Eastern European food!!! We ordered multiple things to share "family style", so everyone got to try everything. They were all phenomenal!!! Forgot to take a picture of Cevapi!!! We initially ordered 10 pieces for 6 people but ended up ordered another 10!!! It was so good!!!! Honestly, we absolutely loved this place! Everyone was so nice and friendly.....can't wait to go back again!!!

This local neighborhood restaurant is a bright spot in a mixed industrial/transitional rust belt neighborhood in Cleveland. We had lunch there on Martin Luther King day, and were very pleased by the friendly service and generous portions. It's like an Eastern European diner, with options like stuffed cabbage and schnitzel offered in both lunch and dinner size portions. Our meals were very reasonably priced and included soup or salad and a good sized basket of soft, fresh bread and butter. Next time save room for strudel or pie.

Excellent food. Wait staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Menu features ethnic favorites. Hard to decide on one. Know for certain we will be back. My only regret is we have lived in the Cleveland area our entire life and never heard of Marie's. Plan on eating here. You will not be sorry.

Excellent food and value. Home cooked German American feeling. Large portions. We visited from out of town and were impressed.

Okay, I might be biased since I've been coming to Marie's the better portion of my life and the owners are more like family than a business. Nestled in the heart of my old neighborhood, you will find home cooked authentic Eastern European cooking just like mama would make. Whether it's a funeral, a celebration or Monday night dinner Marie's is always an option. You can order in or take it to go, get a full or half portion, lunch or dinner, the choice is yours. Where to begin, I wasn't always a vegetarian and oh how I loved their schnitzel with home fries and goulash gravy. It's authentic and full of flavor. Now, I tend to stick epithet carb loading and the comforts of spatzels (dumplings), veggies, cauliflower soup, if it Is on special and a salad with the house dressing. Now the dressing, sure it's just vinegar and a few other basics, but it's delicious, my husband always has a comment when I drink from the bowl to get the very last drop. It is just that good. Back to food, depending on the day of the week you can get specials or order off the regular menu. They have what my sister refers to as the best, sometimes better than my mothers, sadama (stuffed cabbage). The specials run out, so make sure you order early. So head to the corner of 45th/St. Clair and try an amazing family run scratch kitchen, get the strudel and an MGD too if you want to fit in with the local crowd.
