Great dive, and a great vibe. Crazy that it is right in the heart of the convention center area, and still thriving, and not bought out by some corporation.

Walking around the convention center area on a Wednesday 9:30pm (no NHL game night) and, while a couple of places already had chairs piled up on tables, the Char Bar bar area was packed and high energy. I had in mind the place caught up on fire, thus the name, but it actually had a drunk driver just crashing into the bar and damaging everything. Now became a story to tell (nobody hurt) and a picturesque place in town.

Had a weird experience here. Came with my girlfriend on a slow Thursday night, and the vibe was off. Three guys who worked there were playing pool, and when I got up to grab us more drinks, one of them tried to get her number. There was also another guy creeping on drunk girls all night, seemed like he knew the staff. Maybe it was just a one off, but if I were planning a girls night out, I’d skip this place.
Had a great time. Different people from Different places everyone there for fun. Outside may look a little run down, however fun times on the inside.

Zack is so awesome! He is knowledgeable and friendly. He is professional
Such a cool spot! Caught some basketball and caught up with a friend, space was fun, well lit, and the staff was amazing!
It's back open and pretty much the same as ever.
This place pours the strongest, most dangerously good Long Islands in town. The vibe at Char Bar is unbeatable—no frills, no fuss, just the perfect dive bar
Many people aren't aware that Abraham Lincoln spent the night there once many years ago! Historical!
How we missed you Char Bar
