I stopped in to order a custom cake and i was greeted with (my guess the owner?) pointing to a sign stating no custom cakes until xx date and she was also not making any cakes the week of thanksgiving. Umm what happened to hello, first time in? How’d you hear about us, I mean anything.. I stated my cake wouldn’t be needed until December which was more than 3 weeks out (website says2 weeks) she then proceeded to ask me if I had an idea for my cake I said “kind of” before I could finish she was handing me her business card telling me to text her and she would get back to me with a quote.
Listen i understand if you are busy (no one else in the store at the time however I do understand if she was in the back decorating) but I am here now. Your website says stop in for custom cakes and to discuss. I was greeted with an automatic discussion of you aren’t taking any orders til next week and you had no idea when I even needed this cake. No, how are you, what’s your event, how many people just a basically get out.
As someone who was ready to order a pretty large cake I was treated really poorly. I wanted to go over a design which is why I didn’t just send it online to begin with but that didn’t even seem like an option.
If your store isn’t open then taken the open sign down, but to shove your card in my hand is pretty bizarre when I’m here now. If I need to schedule a time to come back at least give me that option.
Overall I took my business down the road to another small bakery who was able to discuss designs with me (an hour later - waiting was never an issue or coming back) and treated me like a person.
