I don’t event know what to say other than my food was disgusting. Pretty sure I agree with someone else here who said their chicken seems like frozen chicken nuggets. Uhhhhhh…

I went to Ho Toy for dinner and was surprised to see a section of Thai food on the menu. I ordered Tom Yum Ga and Pad Thai. It was the worst soup I ever tasted in my life: the broth was made with Better than Bouillon (and far too much of it - the salt content was off the charts!) There was no coconut milk in the soup, no lemon grass, and the tomatoes I found in the broth were past their expiration date. I hope I will not get food poisoning from this dish. The Pad Thai was not Pad Thai: the sauce was simple brown sauce, there was no trace of palm sugar or fish sauce. A small sprinkling of sesame seeds took the place of ground peanuts. There was no fried egg, sprouts, or vegetable of any sort other than a corner with some chopped green onion. I will not come back to this restaurant.

Ordered the sesame chicken lunch special. It was like processed chicken nuggets that were overcooked with broccoli, carrots and sauce. I don't eat here very often but I was really disappointed at the quality of food this time compared to previous visits.

Food was not good. Everything tasted old My boyfriend had general Tso with lo mein and it looked like spaghetti noodles. He said the chicken was tasty.Egg roll was mushy on the inside. Sweet and sour sauce was super sweet. I had wor sue gai the only thing I enjoyed was the lettuce. I am very disappointing used to come here often as a child definitely not the same.

i ate here more than a few times pre-pandemic and had good memories. nothing astounding but pretty solid standard chinese (through the american lens of my experience) food. i've been working from home for 2 years and upon this, my third week back downtown, -and being infinitely lazy, it's right around the corner from my work - i decided to pop in today. lunch special: general tso's. from having a small child and eating too many of these myself, i can attest with very strong conviction: i was given tyson frozen chicken nuggets, flash fried and lightly tossed in some sauce. see photo. *edit, there was ONE piece of chicken, breaded, that wasn't flat/form cut. the rest were definitely chicken nuggets. what the heck man? the soda that came with my lunch meal was incredibly cold. that's the best thing i can say. an extra point or so for the broccoli seeming to be pretty fresh. i wasn't asked if i wanted brown or white rice and the brown rice is pretty meh, even by brown rice standards. the egg roll was deep fried, told it was an unwanted child by unloving parents, then deep fried again. no sweet and sour sauce for the egg roll. negative 2 stars, not going back ever. I used to drop in here occasionally for lunch when I worked downtown and I regarded Ho Toy as a kind of landmark of westernized Chinese food, kind of a guilty pleasure (big dish of chicken chop suey with egg roll was my favourite). I had not been for a decade and decided to eat there yesterday. Wow what a disappointment. There was one other table occupied in the restaurant and yet it took about 25 minutes to get our order. I think there must have been only two staff members working that day. The order was missing the egg rolls we ordered and was served in plastic takeout containers. Water was in bottles. The food was pretty awful. A shrimp dish with vegetables had a few slices of onion and carrot that were swimming in sauce but almost raw. The fried rice as a side dish was hard. Too bad. I took my daughter there because we were talking about the old Chinese restaurants that seem to spring up in every town and I remembered this one as being pretty representative. I was embarassed. Oh and it was my birthday.

First time try Ho-Toy. Staff was very friendly. I ordered Thai coconut milk soup, deep fried tofu, mixed veggies. Great food and good value. I will def go back for more.

Wonderful experience! Friendly staff, short wait time, affordable, too. I ordered the pad thai and although the flavor isn't typical pad thai, it's still great and was made fresh. Also, a good sized portion. Looking forward to trying this place again.

Back in the midst of the pandemic, I was looking for something different for lunch and stopped at Ho-Toy. I got carry out of the general tso's lunch special and described it on reddit as one of the worst meals I've had, ever. It was literally tyson breaded chicken strips, cut up into smaller pieces and covered in little bit of sauce, with some pretty bad fried rice. I told myself I'd never go back, but "Aidosis" on reddit said that I should give it a second chance and "It's almost like the secret of how good the food is, is getting out." Well, look....I may have ordered a shitty standard Americanized dish that isn't really on the menu other than to placate people without an adventurous taste in food.....but that's not saying that the dish can't be made well. Lots of places make "Ok" general tso's chicken with barely any effort. And, it's not like I don't like authentic Chinese food; My wife is Chinese, I've been to several areas of China and ate all of the authentic food there.... But, my point, I sometimes want the Americanized comfort food for a quick work lunch. So, anyway..."Aidosis". Look, I went back with a co-worker today, because he was curious. I gave them their second chance, and the only good thing about their lunch special was the soup and the price. I may have ordered the wrong thing yet again, but if this is what you consider "good" food....man.....I want to find you and take you to some places around town to show you what I consider good. My co-worker gave a little more generous take, saying: "It's different. I wouldn't NOT go back, but I wouldn't go very often." So, yeah...ok....I might go back if co-workers go and I feel the peer pressure. But on my own, they'd have to throw out the frozen chicken strips, and put in the minimal effort to bread and fry raw chicken breast for the guys like me that want what they want, authenticity be damned.

Stopped by this evening for dinner and I'm glad I did! The staff were very kind and the food was out of this world! I got the noodles with peanut sauce and then added shrimp to that. My girlfriend got the pad see ew and loved it. We'll be returning again soon.

These people are seriously nice! I got the War Sue Gail lunch special with an egg roll. The meal was yummy and I was so happy that the chicken was beautifully cooked and juicy white chicken breast. It was really good. Their sauce is more the orangey colored one rather than the brownish one. I like both. The egg roll was good and the fried rice was decent. The chicken was definitely the star of the meal.
