Food is remarkable and fresh fried in minutes.
If you were a fan of HCT back in the day like we were, this just isn’t the same place anymore. Who asked for boneless thighs? It’s not part of a sandwich or wrap, just a plain boneless thigh served as the entrée.
And it was dry and old-tasting. The “holy hot” isn’t as hot anymore either. We always loved the thigh meal, which used to come with two juicy thighs. Now it’s just one small, dry boneless thigh. The old mac was creamy and delicious, now it’s elbow noodles drowning in thick, hard nacho cheese. So sad to see what HCT has become. Even sadder we spent money on such a disappointing meal.
This particular location use to sell out of chicken because it was that good couple years ago. Fast forward to my most recent visit July 7th around 4:45 pm, I see they must not plan on being in business that much longer. Look at the pictures a couple years ago compared to what was served to me this Monday. Chicken was burnt, nothing like it used to be.
Service and atmosphere was good, food was the complete opposite. Not good! This is my first time having it..The food wasn't hot, very bland..no flavor, and the breading was falling off of the Chicken Tenders. Everything couldve been cooked a little longer. Very unacceptable and I wouldn't try it again.
These reviews are outdated! I hadn’t been to HCTO in a few years and had been craving it. As soon as I walked in I could tell something had changed.. The place was in disarray, lights out everywhere, dirty tables, sticky floor and most noticeably - absent of customers. (Back in the day the line would be out the door) Then when ordering I noticed the menu was quite different. Only one person working the register and didn’t seem happy to be there. Food took a long to be ready (partially forgot half of my order) and the sizing was TINY! Chicken looked and tasted completely different. I knew something was off and as I ate did a little research and noticed the ownership has recently changed. I knew I wasn’t crazy! Finally, I realized that this was my last time ever eating HCTO and shed a tear.
North Market is incredible with its variety.
Its been a few years since I'd been, and let me say, the quality has definitely gone down. Used to be a favorite place, not any longer.
Nestled up in the rafters of the North Market, this joint is no-frills with great food.
The hush-puppies are great. The chicken is well seasoned, crispy, and moist.
I really enjoyed the Banana Pudding
Chicken fried steak was absolutely awful and they didn’t include gravy which is why I got it. Did not respond to email after the fact (no phone?). Terrible customer service and questionable food

All good things must come to an end. This place used to be so good. It’s now pretty awful from the service to the food. The pickles were absolutely inedible, the chicken had no spice (I ordered Nashville
hot), and the Mac and cheese wasn’t any better than Kraft. On top of that, the order took 40 minutes!

The Hot Chicken Takeover you once knew is gone. It was acquired by Craveworthy Brands, a restaurant group. The quality of food has plummeted, likely due to cost-cutting measures. The menu is terrible now; the macaroni and cheese was generic and dry, the chicken was dark and fatty (exchanged it for another sandwich but got even worse quality), the banana pudding recipe changed for the worse, no ranch included with sandwiches, no slices of bread for buns, the buns provided were hard and dry. Overall, everything about Hot Chicken Takeover has declined. Eat somewhere else. This company will be gone soon.

Nice fried chicken sandwich with fries. Priced about right. Original isn't very spicy, would order a spicier version next time. Atmosphere is kind of institutional, but great for pickup.

Located in the North market, a no frills chicken restaurant with made to order chicken sandwiches and salads. Choose your flavor and enjoy. The food and service is very good.
