My mom got a gift certificate from my cousin to come here and she invited me to join her. They offer two primary experiences: 1) you watch a chef cook you a several course meal while you sit at the counter and drink wine OR 2) several recipes are prepared, one each by the different groups of guests then everyone gets to sample all the dishes at the end. Since my mom and I are both pretty good cooks, we chose #2. My first criticism is the pricing: why does it cost more to come to a class where all the food is prepared by the guests than it does to come and sit at a counter drinking wine while a chef cooks for you all evening? Super weird and confusing. Pretty much everything about the experience was kind of a disaster. When we arrived, there was no one to greet us and tell us what to do. We started late because the chef teaching the class swore we were waiting for another couple to arrive only to realize about 20 minutes after we should have started that everyone was there who was supposed to be. Next, the options of recipes that each of the groups would choose from to make were chosen based on how early you arrived so whoever got there first got first choice on which recipe they got to make which no one told us before we got there or we probably would have arrived sooner. They also assigned each recipe a skill level of either beginner, intermediate, or advanced and we were asked to pick on based on our skill level as a cook. My mom was disappointed because the recipe that she wanted to make was the first one chosen and the other ones she thought would be fun were all easy so we picked one we weren't particularly excited about because it was the only other advanced recipe. Since we figured the results of these recipes would be our dinner later, we figured we should pick it so a lesser skilled team wouldn't pick them and make them wrong then we would still have to eat them. The true disappointment was when we actually began cooking. Supposedly, the work stations were all prepared with everything we would need to make our recipes but over and over again we kept having to ask for utensils or supplies but there was only the chef and an assistant there to help. They were both usually busy helping other groups and sometimes they didn't actually know where to find something or they didn't end up having what the recipe was telling us to use. The recipe we were making were scallion pancakes which I've actually made before with a friend of mine from college and her mom who are Chinese. The recipe called for so make chopped scallions that I was chopping for about 45 minutes AND....wait for it..... I was given a DULL knife!!!!! Seriously!!!!! For a cooking class!!!! I felt like I was back in my uncle's bachelor pad after he got divorced and before my mom bought him a nice set of knives so she could use them when she visited and needed to use his kitchen to cook. The real kicker of it all was the timing. My mom and I were struggling with getting our recipe done and ended up needing help from other groups at the end to finish our recipe in time to sit down and eat with everyone else. On our way home, I read the recipe again and saw that the total preparation plus cooking time written out in the steps WAS MORE TIME THEN THE ENTIRE CLASS LASTED INCLUDING THE CLEAN UP AND TIME TO EAT!!!!! How in the world can you hire a chef to create and pick recipes that aren't actually feasibly completed in the length of a class?! If you have general or social anxiety, low distress tolerance, or OCD/OCPD and want to push yourself out of your comfort zone, I DO NOT recommend this place. You will traumatize yourself and never want to leave your comfort zone ever again. I also do not recommend it for people who are even slightly claustrophobic or are prone to sensory overload. This place is small and they try to cram way to many people into the kitchen for classes. My mom and I were at a station where we kept getting bumped intoif we stood at it properly. I had a few more things but apparently there is a character limit.
Our small office team recently spent an afternoon at The Seasoned Farmhouse for a staff team-building day — and it was absolutely fantastic!
From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by the beautiful and welcoming atmosphere. The space is warm, clean, and thoughtfully designed, which immediately set the tone for a relaxing and enjoyable experience.
The culinary staff were not only knowledgeable and professional but also incredibly friendly and engaging. The instructions were clear and easy to follow, making it accessible for all skill levels. We learned new techniques, cooked amazing food together, and shared a lot of laughs along the way.
The food itself was *incredible* — fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Everyone left with full stomachs and big smiles.
This was hands down one of the best team-building activities we’ve ever done. Highly recommend The Seasoned Farmhouse for any group looking to bond over a truly unique and delicious experience!
Had a blast learning how to make sushi from seasoned Executive Chef, Heather. From the beautifully curated kitchen and atmosphere to the meal and the company, everything about this experience was exceptional. We’ll be back! Be sure to make your reservation asap as spots fill up quickly!
Fantastic time learning how to cook and the food/recipes are delicious!! Highly recommend!!
I went on a culinary trip to Morocco with Tricia and the team. It was amazing! The personal touches and care Tricia takes to plan these trips are outstanding. The food was amazing, and we also did plenty of site seeing and shopping. Everything from the accomodations to the food to the activities were fantastic! I highly recommend going on one of the trips! Great for solo travelers and groups alike. It was amazing not having to worry about anything - Tricia and the team took care of it all.
Fabulous classes; always come away with recipes I’ll use again and again.
Great time, great food.
This was perfect for our small company's retreat. The afternoon was delightful: the chefs were so knowledgeable and helpful; the kitchen and dining areas are spectacular; and the food we cooked together was simply delicious.
A very fun culinary experience!
Such a fun experience! We took the 'Lomo Saltado' class with Yohalex and his team. The food was delicious and Yohalex did an excellent job explaining everything. We were able to bring our own wine and Bourbon and were provided plenty of ice and glassware. My only recommendation would be for them to provide more details as to what we'd be served for the class. My husband was so worried we'd leave still hungry, but we had a very filling appetizer, plus our Lomo Saltado, salad and dessert. We were happily stuffed!

When we arrived, no one greeted us or told us to come in and sit down. Many guests just stood at the door looking confused until they figured it out on their own. The class itself was unorganized and not enough instruction was given. My biggest issue was that due to confusing wording on the website, I chose 2 reservations which was for 4 people instead of 2 so I paid an extra $150. A lady working at the class told me this happens more often than they would like and I could contact the director. I contacted the director and asked if I could get the extra money refunded or if I could be credited for another class and she responded and said there’s nothing she could do. I won’t be back.
Did not know what to expect going into this, but what a fun experience! Susan and Paul are wonderful people, very friendly and really great teachers. 10/10 will definitely be back when we get the chance. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a great night out that is both educational and delicious!
Amazing food and amazing people. Always a great time
My husband and I had a great time at iconic Chicago cooking class. Our friends brought us to the event and we weren't sure what to expect. Very professional, great setting, and we were able to try our hand at making a few things we never would at home. Delicious recipes and desert! BYOB was enjoyable too!
I’ve taken multiple classes here and never been disappointed. Tricia Wheeler is truly fabulous! You learn much more than the recipes in her classes. She helps you know where/how to shop for ingredients, how to plan meals, how to get the best flavor from ingredients, and how you can use supplies in your kitchen to produce great results. Make time to schedule these classes! They’re worth the price and effort
