Edit: I emailed after that comment was left. They never got back to me and it’s been a month. They comment to save face but never actually resolve the issues. Bad look.
I came here on a Saturday night for a chill drink with a Bachelorette party. There were about 12 of us so we sat at two different tables. When we got there the server tells my table that we have to all be on the same check . . . Fine. Well it turns out that our whole group needs to be on the same check and the server never tells me this. A friend at the other table had to tell me. Meanwhile, the table next to us has 6 people and they each have their own check. So, I’m overwhelmed by the time I get the check not knowing if it’s correct or not since it includes orders for 12 people. Well I tip and leave and realize they had already added an auto-gratuity . . . Also without telling me. So my server ends up with a $75 tip on a $190 tab. The server was fine but definitely didn’t go above and beyond deserving a 40% tip when she wasn’t even willing to split a check into the two tables we were sat at. It was not that busy and I’m guessing the server just wanted to keep us all together to be able to charge the auto-gratuity.
That being said, the drinks were good and a couple people got fries which were fine but small portions (as expected at a place like this). Which is why I gave it two stars. I’ve been here multiple times for coffee at had a good experience but this leaves a bad taste in my mouth for this place.
Didn’t eat here but stopped in for a beer on the patio which was lovely! 10 out of 10 recommend. They have a lounge which is a more traditional restaurant and full service bar and then a more casual eatery where you order at the counter and they bring out your food. This is attached to the patio. Accessible from the Olentangy bike path by way of some serious stairs.
Yet another stunningly beautiful place to get over-priced and under-flavored American food in Columbus.
We recently held our wedding at Understory and absolutely adored our experience. The space is so gorgeous and offers so many unique areas to take pictures! Not only do you get a beautiful space, but Haley the event coordinator is a joy to work with and so so helpful with all the questions you may have throughout the entire process! They also offer a wonderful selection of food and an incredible bar!! I could not recommend Understory more for events!
Its an expensive pretty place to drink. I loved the backdrop and even the reuse of the old school was so fun to just navigate. So much history.
The service is pretty hands off, so not much to say there I guess, Idk the format confused me at first.
The food was very colorful and very veggie and vegan friendly, which i will admit I have aquired an appreciation for lately. Menu was alittle small but I think they nailed the hangout atmosphere that made enjoying a aperol spritz on the rocks something alittle special.
I was invited there for a lunch and enjoyed myself, but i noticed some people with laptops workings so it may be a sweet spot to do some remote work as well.
Cool spot!
Excellent food and drinks. Great atmosphere
Went for a wedding and reception, the atmosphere and staff were amazing and would definitely have an event there!
The vibes are chill, the food is delicious and the drinks are always tasty! Definitely recommend the goat cheese croquette with toasted bread!

My husband and I had our wedding at Understory and I encourage you to do the same! The planning was smooth and easy thanks to the wonderfully talented Haley Parker. She was the perfect resource to have throughout wedding planning as she has been in the wedding industry for years. Every weird request and question we had she was not only willing but happy to help! She made our vision become reality. Also, the staff on bar and food and the director of the events that evening were fun and kind and professional. Besides the people themselves, the space is beautiful and was the perfect space for our 90 guests. I wish we could do it all over again!!

Awesome vibe and cocktails, wish they could find a way to get the full bar menu throughout but we'll be back either way.

Food was good. Server was good but stretched a bit thin. Enjoyed the atmosphere, but a little noisy for conversation.

Great restaurant.
Parking: The parking is very limited. You often have to park on the street on Neil.

We recently just had our wedding reception here (for ~100 people), and it was PERFECT! Working with Haley was such a breeze. She clearly communicated and I never felt rushed to make a decision or left out of the loop on things. She even went above and beyond for a couple requests we had. Valet staff was available for the night for guests. The food was brought out in a timely manner and delicious. There were plenty of servers and bartenders (who by the way were AMAZING!) Blake and Jerald were our day of captains and both did a fantastic job navigating the night. The entire staff was efficient, friendly, and professional. I have zero complaints about hosting my wedding reception here. I would absolutely host another event, or recommend to others!! Understory & staff is *chefs kiss*
