Some businesses see themselves as neighbors and a true part of the community. If you want to support those kinds of values, go down the road to Cockeye’s Creamery. It might be that the ice cream here is good, but the ability to be kind and take good care of other humans is not.

I am going to spell out the details, but the gist of the story is that, in addition to wanting to purchase ice cream, I asked if I could charge my phone there while my kids at their ice cream. The young people working there looked stricken when I asked and said they had to call the owner. They then came back and told me that they were forbidden from helping me. I had literally 2% left, so I went over to Cockeye Creamery (so lucky I made it there). They barely blinked and cheerfully plugged me in, asked me about my travels and provided amazing service and ice cream. I also noticed that they are highly involved in local charitable work.

Now, if you’re asking yourself why I was not better prepared- fair. I will take a moment to lay it out. I took my teenager and toddler to Nelson’s Ledges. I have an iPhone SE and it weirdly works with only one charger, which is a USB-C, and the only way I can charge it in my car is to have it attached to the A/C outlet plug. And, while on our journey, my kid put his foot on the outlet and it pulled out. So I could not charge in my car.

Nelson’s Ledges does not have power in its bathrooms, but I thought- no problem, I have enough juice to navigate to an ice cream shop and I will treat these kids and get enough charge to navigate home.

It seems like an easy way to be a helper in the world, and heck, even relieve a fairly problematic situation for a woman with little ones. Instead, the owner’s choice left me anxiously hoping I could even manage to find a place to charge while trying to calm a sobbing 3 year old who definitely did not understand why we did not stay to get ice cream at the Corner Shop.

Ok, this place is way too close to a busy road first of all. Second, their ice cream portions are huge & delicious!

I drive across the county to get ice cream here. They have the best soft serve. I always think I'm going to try something different, but I keep getting the turtle sundae because it is perfection. We have also tried some of their breakfast and lunch food and it was delicious, especially the fries and chicken strips, they are piping hot and crisp. The prices are more than reasonable for what you get. The staff is always cheerful and smiling.
