We booked our stay about 2 weeks in advance with the request of a certain floor. When we arrived, the flooding in the area was minimal but areas were still recovering, including the hotel. The smell outside of the room was very mildewy and the elevator was broke. We had to carry our luggage up to the fourth floor via their staircase, making leaving the room very unappealing. The room was nice, but there was an old empty beer can in the drawer next to the bed lol. We still enjoyed the stay, despite the setbacks.

An old time classic hotel which is well maintained. Rooms are small but well kept.Located on the river.Walkability: As near as I know, no place is closer to what happens in Marietta.

My first time in Marietta, Ohio and the river had flooded, water had gone in the hotel basement so we couldn't use the elevators, just the service elevator, the stairs that led to the basement smelled like fish the two days we were there. We were given the wrong room upon arriving (which was reserved last year, then called again in January to make sure they had the reservation.) They gave us another room, wrong room again, needed two beds, room had only one, we ended up on the 5th floor, room had a king size bed with a sofa sleeper. Didn't know how to get the heat going, which was the window air conditioner/heater, didn't think we had hot water in the shower but figured out the next day that the hot was cold and the cold was hot, we said something to the front desk about it but did not give us a discount for inconvenience. Other than that, employees were very nice, hotel had good views depending on where your room was. We had eaten in the hotel restaurant which was good but somewhat pricey.

We booked this room for a place to stay on our way up From Charlotte, NC to our home near Cleveland. We always wanted to see Marietta. Unfortunately, we were not informed of the flood that happened before our arrival. Needless to say, the hotel was flooded on the basement level and a stench was throughout the rest of the building. The smell of river water was quite disturbing. The elevator was out of service, and we had to walk four flights of stairs with our luggage. The room was filthy. The widow blinds have thickened dirt as if not cleaned for years. The wallpaper is falling off the walls. The bathroom was clean but also had a foul smell. Anyway, we just wished they would have contacted us about the condition of this place before we arrived. Sad to see this a historic building in such poor condition.

Love this place - I go 5-6 times a year. The staff are amazing - Mandy, Amber, Haeden and the whole front desk crew need to be commended, they are all wonderful and go out of their way to make your stay a special experience. The views of the river are the best, if you are not in a riverview room you can go to the roof - the view from there is amazing. All of the rooms are great. And the best thing is they are pet friendly! My dog Tyson is treated like royalty!Rooms: All have been great with my dog I love the ones with the balconies.Nearby activities: The haunted mansion, St Mary's, the mound cemetery, the valley gem sternwheeler, the adelphia - great stores. Love Marietta Makery.Safety: No issues would go there by myselfWalkability: we park and don't drive the rest of the weekend.Food & drinks: Love the pub - everyone is so nice - you can go in there and make new friends.Noteworthy details: Love the staff - a hidden Gem in ohio.

This was a really nice place to stay but I did have to give 4 stars total because of things that aren't really the hotel's fault.Good!- The building is older (by US standards) and I loved that. They've modernized it but the little touches (classic wood desk, bed-frame, etc.) remind you of the history. The bathrooms were modern, the water was hot and plentiful and the bed was cozy.- The Riverfront Bar and Grill was excellent. It had a very laid-back atmosphere and the food was fantastic (the fish and chips were among the best I've ever had.)-We went to the Gun Room for breakfast in the morning and loved it. What a wonderful respite from the usual continental breakfast at other hotels! The free traditional breakfast was more than enough for my wife and I got pancakes and sausage for only 2.75! So nice to have pleasant place to enjoy breakfast and chat about the day ahead.Less than good:- The traffic noise is very noticeable. We were on the third floor and it was distracting. This isn't the Lafayette's fault at all (too many loud engines with rev-heads at the wheel) but it is something that did negatively impact our stay.-Our room was small. I think this is probably because of the age of the building. This was especially true of the bathroom. The walk-in shower was fine but while on the toilet I could lean over just slightly and rest my chin on the sink. Just a bit tighter than I'm comfy with. I'll admit this might have just been the type of room we booked.Final word: A really good place to stay if you want older charm and two awesome restaurants steps away from your room.

The Lafayette Hotel is a historic time capsule of sorts. The lobby feels old but has been updated, yet still feels like one stepped back in time. The bar also feels historic, very pleasant experience as far as aesthetic choices. The room we received was a double twin room. It was clean. The beds are a little lumpy and I had a difficult time sleeping because of that and the radiator making noises, as well as the walls are paper thin, so I heard my neighbors speaking until around 11 pm. After that it was quiet except for the radiator. Not a big problem but if that bugs you, then consider it. Our view was spectacular of the Ohio River. Our experience at the bar: the food was outstanding. We were honestly shocked! It was also inexpensive unlike most hotels, another plus. Totally understaffed by leaps and bounds and surprisingly busy on a Friday night. The Gun restaurant breakfast was also pleasant, as was the coffee shop area. The check in service was our biggest complaint. We stood there for 15 minutes waiting for someone to check us in. There’s a two-way mirror there and we could see a person. We know she saw us but didn’t respond. The phone was ringing off the hook with no one to answer it. Another couple was also waiting behind us. It was unnecessary.Maid service was weird. They didn’t make our beds, but only changed our towels and took the trash out.Despite my minor complaints, we would go back again. We would ask for a larger bed next time.
