I am not sure what happened. Your fish and chips used to be amazing. Nice thick, juicy fillets cooked perfectly. Now its thin, overcooked fish. The fries don't taste the same and the seasoning is different. And then the ranch dressing...different and not in a good way. It's a crime against humanity what you have done to your menu. I hope this isn't a permanent change because if so, you have lost a regular.

I was very disappointed tonight in the food quality. I ordered the Fisherman's Shrimp & Fish Platter $24 which is usually very moist, tender flaky fish and seasoned very well. Tonight was like eating dried out chicken, very dry and rubbery and tough with no seasoning, I couldnt even get the vinegar to add flavor or salt. I let my Wife try it thinking it was me, nope it was the fish she said it was old fish reheated. I paid my bill and asked the waitress if they changed their fish? I explained how dry and rubbery it was, she told me they switched and will be going back to Haddock fish next month. So a word to future patrons, before you order ask if they have or are serving the Haddock before you place your order. So disappointing as I was hungering for some good fish and had a coupon for captain Ds in the car but chose Old Bag Of Nails instead. Also the tables are sticky, like your hands, arms etc stick like sticky spray is all over the table. Ive heard and read others complain and nothing being done about it, its like the tables need refinished or something. Id put table clothes on if they cant afford to replace the table, then again maybe why they went with cheaper fish. ??

You must try the lobster roll. It is to die for. I fell in love the 1st time I tried it. I went back every week for a month to get one. It does cost more than most of the other menu options but it is totally worth it.

Fish size not close to what they were, Ordered carrot cake. was with friends We both ordered the cake. when it comes to the table. The size was very very different. Asked the server about the diff. she stated the food manager said he it went by wait. She noticed the size diff. and asked him about it. I don't think so. I am not blind. Won't go back.to the Newark rest. If I want a fish dinner I will go to the Westerville rest.

Im visiting from South Carolina and the next time I'm back in town I'll be stopping by for another meal. There were three of us, the cheeseburger and coleslaw was perfect. The blackened fish tacos were a hit and plenty, the half fish and chips were equally delicious. Definitely worth a visit ☺️

I recently stopped by the Old Bag of Nails in Newark, Ohio, and had a solid overall experience. The atmosphere is relaxed and comfortable, the kind of place where you can settle in without feeling rushed. Our waitress was friendly and easy to talk to, which made the visit feel welcoming without being overly formal.
I tried the mushroom appetizer to start, and it was a pleasant surprise. The portion was reasonable, and the flavor was good enough that I’d order it again. For the main course, I went with the fish and chips. The fish had a nice crisp coating and was cooked well, and the serving size was generous. It’s a straightforward dish, but they do it well.
One thing that stood out more than I expected was the coleslaw. I don’t usually think much about coleslaw one way or the other, but this one was genuinely enjoyable — fresh, not too heavy, and probably the best I’ve had in a while. It paired nicely with the rest of the meal.
Overall, the Old Bag of Nails offers a dependable dining experience with friendly service and satisfying food. It’s not trying to reinvent anything, but it delivers on what it promises. If you’re in the area and want a casual meal with a few standout items, it’s worth stopping in.
