Service is excellent, food delicious. The guacamole is so good, the enchiladas were the best I have had. Well worth the visit.
Restaurant Review: Johnny Gringos – A One-and-Done Experience
We recently gave Johnny Gringos a try, and while the place looked clean and inviting upon arrival, the overall experience left us disappointed and unlikely to return.
Let’s start with the good: the chips, salsa, and guacamole were solid—fresh and flavorful. My wife ordered the fijitas and found them to be just okay. What caught us off guard, though, was the fact that basic toppings like sour cream, pico de gallo or lettuce aren’t standard; instead, they’re listed as “side dish options,” which felt more like a workaround than a thoughtful menu choice.
Now to the real issue: the Johnny Burrito, which was hands down one of the worst burritos I’ve ever had. It was supposed to come with cheese and jalapeño sauce—neither of which made it to the plate. What I received was a $15 burrito that tasted like dog food and contained only steak, beans, and rice. No cheese. No sauce. No flavor. It was so dry, I had to dump the remaining table salsa on top just to force it down, and even then, it was a struggle.
When we brought this up to our waitress, her response was less than helpful. We pointed out that ingredients were clearly missing, and she just shrugged, saying the kitchen confirmed everything was “in there.” It clearly wasn’t. I also asked about the two sides the menu advertised with the burrito and was told the menu is “wrong” and the sides are inside the burrito. A weak excuse for cutting corners.
The staff didn’t seem interested in helping or fixing the issue, and there was no effort made to make the experience right.
24 ounce beer served in a warm mug. Beer was warm before the food arrived.
Bottom line: this place is not worth your money. With multiple Mexican restaurants within a mile or so, you’re much better off going literally anywhere else. Johnny Gringos offers food that’s barely edible and service that’s indifferent at best.

Great food in Painesville!
The good was interesting. A different look at the usual Mexican flair.
Arriving just before 8:00 did not like that they put chairs up on the tables while we were eating and swept the floor. They closed at 9:00 and we didn't even have our food yet and we felt like they were pushing us out. We thought the cocktail prices were high.
Small portion for the price.. not very filling..
This place was fantastic! The food was phenomenal. The server was friendly and the manager came to our table asking if everything was good. The restaurant was clean and service was fast.
Lady serving us was awesome. Food was just ok. If we came back we might try some food that was being cooked outside.
Great food and people love how I can get my Hispanic and American fix at time
Wife and I visited the restaurant tonight. It was amazing. Great service and tge food was awesome.
Best mexican cuisine I have ever had!!! Soo full of flavor it was unbelievable. Service was fantastic, one of the owners stopped by our table to see how we were enjoying everything as well. 10/10 can't wait to go back!

Wow, incredibly disappointed with our entire experience for dinner here. First of all service was terrible. Our waitress wasn’t very friendly and she was incredibly slow even though it wasn’t busy. Chips and queso were good but we sat there for like 40 minutes before she even took our food order (we were ready). Finally got to order and she highly recommended the charro ribs so husband got that, I got the green chicken enchiladas and we both did refried beans and rice as the sides. When the food finally arrived we’d been there about 1.5hrs.
We have a toddler so we are always quick to order and eat we definitely were not the reason it took so long. When the food came out I could tell it wasn’t going to be great. The enchilada sauce was super dry and there was no cheese (it said it came with cheese and they always do). The chicken tasted like it was seasoned with a packet of store brand taco seasoning and the enchiladas clearly weren’t baked. I took a few bites and decided it wasn’t even worth eating. The beans were okay not a ton of flavor but nothing really wrong but the rice was awful. The rice was super mushy like it’d been way overcooked and didn’t have the best flavor either but I couldn’t get past the texture. Husband said the ribs tasted like they were old and had been reheated. They were tough and not good at all. We both barely touched our meals. Also, husband’s Cadillac margarita wasn’t made correctly.
When the waitress finally checked on us we told her we were unhappy with the meal and all she said was okay so no box then… 0 apology, nothing taken off the check and she didn’t talk to the manager. It was bedtime for our toddler by this point and we just decided to leave instead of tracking down the waitress again to ask for the manager since she took off quickly
I was so excited to try a new spot especially with a nice patio so we are just super disappointed. We won’t be back and I’d recommend anyone else not give it a try.
I'm not a connoisseur of Mexican food, but this food is seasoned perfectly, cooked to the right consistency, is the right amount of food for a serving, and presented beautifully. I've eaten here a few times and have never been disappointed.
Great lunch spot.
Really cool bar, but no liquor on Sundays. Very friendly service. Very low quality guacamole.
Excellent!
