Honestly really great! My family and I went in earlier to grab a few things and I thought the pricing was surprisingly fair! For all we bought I expected the price tag to be between 35-40$ but ended up being around 27-28$ if I remember correctly. Purchased- A dozen cookies, 2 long johns/tips, a turn over, another donut (can't recall the name, but it had coconut), a chocolate cream horn, and a batch of their sticky rolls. Everything was wonderful! Especially the turn over, which I can easily say was probably the best I've ever had as a very picky person. The inside was flaky with just the right amount of filling so it doesn't get all over your hand, it wasn't overwhelmingly sweet, and the icing on top was particularly good. I found myself wishing I had bought one for later as well with my evening coffee lol! The staff was also very polite and the wait time was short. I don't typically leave reviews on places but when I arrived home I went to recommend this place to a friend of mine and was surprised to see so few reviews and negative ones at that - which I don't think reflects the quality of this bakery at all. I will definitely be returning and recommending to others!

Our Large Family ALL have been loyal customers of this Bakery for many decades... back to the days when is was Counts, and then Helen's. We have always Loved All if their baked goods, but in the past 2-3 years, the Quality has Fallen Drastically, while the Price Continues to Rise. Specifically their Long John's, which use to be called Tips, have risen from $1.00 to $1.50, and are now $2.00 each. Many times in the last couple years, they apparently Forgot to add the baking powder, because All their baked goods sometimes Don't Raise, they're Flat and Small. The next time they Will have raised, and Look Normal, but are Very Dense and Hard when you bite into them. No Consistency. I asked Why the Tips are now $2.00, and was told by a young girl that "we were Losing Money". Which I complete understand, since their Quality has Fallen so far. However, the Solution to "losing money" is NOT always to Double your prices. I observed Five (5) people working on 3/4/23, where there are usually Only 1-3 people, and yet the Front Cases were EMPTY. I suggest their "losing money" is due to Poor Management. On Every visit, we ALWAYS spend between $25-$35, as we did yesterday. We bought a variety of pastries, which All Looked Great. But we found out Later, they were Again Very Dense and Hard, to the point where they were Difficult to Bite Into, and Hard to Cut with a fork. VERY DISAPPOINTING. This Bakery us now owned by Kathy Sue, whom I have personally met on several occasions, who lives somewhere in Texas (I believe) and I cannot find a phone number for her. I would love to "Tell her what is happening at her Bakery" in Portsmouth, OH. I DO NOT want this Bakery to Go Out of business, but on their current course, it is Only a matter of time.

My Dad purchased some sweets from Kathy Sue's Bakery. I tried a cream horn and a stuffed vanilla cream donut. The donut was light with a nice texture. The white cream filling had marshmallow cream in it. This was not the typical white cream I'm used to having in a donut. The vanilla icing on top was yummy. The cream horn was OK. But again, was stuffed with a filling using marshmallow cream. Not my favorite donuts. I will have to pass next time. It wasn't quite good enough for the calorie intake.

10/15/22: Annual road trip to Portsmouth from Columbus along rt 23 to see the fall foliage and stimulate the Portsmouth economy. Bought a square pan of frosted brownies and square pan of cinnamon rolls. Both absolutely delicious! Brownies $9, cinnamon rolls $7.50. Wish I could get there more often for Kathy Sue's bakery goodies! Support your local mom n pop businesses! I hope to be back in 2023!10/16/21: Coming from Columbus, OH, stopped in 10/16/21. Very friendly ladies working there, very helpful telling me about Portsmouth. Excellent strawberry danish, Bavarian cream sticks, and pecan roll w/ vanilla frosting. But my favorite bakery item is the pan of chocolate brownies with a light chocolate frosting - absolutely delicious!!! 9 brownies in the pan, $9. Worth the money. If I lived closer, I would stop in more frequently! I love river towns and mom & pop bakeries and restaurants!!! Nice to see Portsmouth being revived!!
