I can’t express just how amazing this place and its staff are! Yesterday we ended up on the patio of this amazing restaurant as a place to get food before heading down to the waterfront for the total eclipse, but ended up staying for the eclipse bc our server, Lyn, and the food were just too amazing to leave. Lyn was wonderfully attentive & accommodating and totally made the experience that much more enjoyable. She is truly amazing! The food was also fabulous and the patio seating could not have been a more perfect place to view the eclipse. In addition to great service and food, Susie, the manager, was so thoughtful and bought 200 hundred eclipse viewing glasses to give out to her staff and anyone who may not have been prepared and brought their own. The restaurant also set up a cute eclipse photo backdrop with a stage for people to take photos to commemorate the amazing astronomical event. All to say, this restaurant truly went above and beyond to make this already incredible moment in time even more fantastic & memorable. I cannot thank them enough! If you are ever in Sandusky, this restaurant is an absolute must stop spot!
Best meal I've had in a long time!! Compliments to the chef!! Our Table ordered the ribeye, scallops, pork chop, and fillet. All cooked to perfection, and fantastic beet salad, all at a decent price. And Lynn was an EXCELLENT server, attentive, funny and made sure my birthday dinner was great. ? Will be back often !

My group was a party of five (one missing spouse) who recently enjoyed a great evening at J Bistro Downtown Sanduski. The food, drinks and service were all excellent! I enjoyed Scallops over Risotto… perhaps the best I had anywhere. Cocktails were served in generous glasses. Good selection of tasty desserts... excellent Crème Brûlée.The atmosphere, particularly due to the soft lighting, was very pleasant.Bottom line, don’t hesitate to enjoy an evening at J Bistro Downtown Sandusky… you won’t be disappointed!

This one is tough. The food was executed correctly but it lacked flavor. For example every was under salted/seasoned, cream sauces needed more cream/butter, desserts needed more flavor, etc. Our server was very nice, but service was inconsistent (rushed as asking what we wanted to eat 2 seconds after sitting and bringing the check while we working on desserts yet and slow at the same time, ie. Drinks took a long time and they never came back to see if we wanted another one…). Two stars overall.

I wouldn’t classify this restaurant as fine dining. We went on a Friday night and it was an extremely loud cafeteria like atmosphere. Service was slow. We ordered shrimp tacos as an appetizer and it was covered in shredded cheddar cheese. I’ve never seen a shrimp taco at a served this way. We ordered steaks and when our food came out they said they were out of mashed potatoes and served us mashed sweet potatoes which we don’t like. The server did offer to bring fries, but they never came until we finished our meal. The steak was cooked nice and tasted good. But for the price we paid and the experience we had, it wasn’t worth it.
