1/5 Stars - Disappointing Experience at Tomo
I visited Tomo last night, expecting an exciting hibachi and sushi experience, but unfortunately, it fell flat in every aspect.
False Advertising: Tomo is listed as a sushi restaurant, but to our surprise, they don't even serve sushi! This was a major letdown, as we were looking forward to trying their sushi offerings.
Poor Customer Service:
· As soon as we sat down (literally 4 minutes), our waitress rushed over, repeatedly asking us to order immediately. No menu explanation, no welcome, just a sense of urgency.
· When I asked for a minute to review the menu, she seemed annoyed and walked away, and came back 2 minutes later.
· Our server seemed completely disinterested, and more eager to get us out of the restaurant. Also, I came with my family and I was going to share a dish since it was 2 proteins (chicken and salmon ) I thought the potions were going to be big. It was an upcharge just to share the waitress snatched my plate and I ended up just having to eat off of another plate from the appetizers.
Bland Food:
· The hibachi chicken was overcooked and dry, lacking any discernible flavor.
· The "signature" sauce tasted like plain soy sauce.
· The stir-fried vegetables were soggy and uninspired.
· The portions were small, especially considering the prices.
Underwhelming Hibachi Experience:
· The chef's performance was lackluster, with minimal interaction and no impressive tricks.
· The grill area was dirty, and the utensils looked worn out.
Won't Be Returning:
For a restaurant listed as sushi and hibachi, Tomo fails to deliver on the fundamentals: quality food, engaging service, and an entertaining experience. With numerous better options in the area, I wouldn't recommend Tomo to anyone.

Tips for Potential Customers:
· Call ahead to confirm sushi availability (or lack thereof).
· Don't expect a welcoming atmosphere.
· Take your time reviewing the menu, despite the server's rush.

Had a delicious dinner here while staying at the hotel for Cedar Point trip. The service was pleasant and fun, the filet mignon hibachi was so flavorful and tender, and it was a great dinner overall! Would recommend to anyone staying here

As far as Hibachi restaurants go, this is not one of the better ones I've visited, but it's still a good experience overall. the Hostess was a bit overwhelmed and took a long time to sit us. The atmosphere was nice, lots of fun and boisterous noises and good ambience and lighting. We got in our order, and the chef came out. . He did a good job with the showmanship and talking to the table, however, he waaaaaay overcooked my lobster, to the point it was a barely edible chewy mess. Sad to see such a beautiful ingredient destroyed in that way. Also the portions were embarrassingly small. I had to go get a snack afterwards to feel full. Expensive, small portions, but still a fun Hibachi evening.
Kid-friendliness: Very kid friendly.

People hear are rude, unreliable and the service is terrible. Had reservations which weren’t honored and the hostess was fire angry and rude. I would never stay here it’s a shame the breakers have such a horrible dinning experience

They trick you during your dinner, so be mindful of that every time they go to squirt saki in your mouth they are charging you for a shot of saki. The filet mignon was very chewy.
Food: For a Japanese restaurant, they lacked the standards you would find at one. There was no miso soup, no hot tea, no desserts. The food we ordered was fine. We got kids meals (hibachi type) and some sushi rolls. Nothing to write home about, standard sushi. However, the amount of rolls you get was less than you would get at Japanese restaurants. E.g. spider roll normally comes in a cut of 8 for the price you pay but here it was a cut off 5.
Service: Good at the start but went downhill. The server was attentive but not overbearing at first and handled our requests (more plates, soy sauce plates, more napkins) great. As our meal winded down, our server came by more frequently asking if we were done. Then another server came by a couple of times and did the same. Then another came and did the same. In the span of about 5 minutes, 3 servers came and asked if we were done. If they actually looked, putting chopsticks with food in your mouth usually means we are not done. It felt like they were rushing us out.
Ambience: We didn't sit at the hibachi tables but a regular table (just wanted sushi). The place is your standard hibachi place just a lot smaller.

As a vegan family, we were grateful that Tomo offered plant-based options like rolls and hibachi.
For anyone planning to dine there, it's advisable to make reservations well in advance—ideally a week ahead—by calling ahead. The restaurant is quite small, with only 6 hibachi tables and one table for sushi rolls.
Dietary restrictions: Vegan options available, but be sure to state that when you call to make the reservation.

Sushi rolls are a third of the size of normal, $12 for 6. Such a ripoff.
