Awesome and beautiful winery with many fantastic wines, a vineyard, and the kind owner Neil and his wife are lovely people. His other staff is also fantastic and the food is out of this world. From the bread and olive oil with a little bit of spicy pepper flakes to the shrimp a la vodka and I’m sure everything else is excellent too. Highly recommend! Beautiful koi pond as well.

We used to frequent Shade a lot about 6 years ago and just recently moved back to Athens so we wanted to try it out again. It is so vastly different and our experience was so uncomfortable and unwelcoming. We were not there for dinner, just looking to try a couple of wines for a nice date night. The girl seating people was very kind but seemed extremely stressed and was hesitant to even let us sit at a table for a glass of wine when there were many tables inside completely open. We were seated inside and it was just us, another couple with their son and the owner - the husband, who gave us a strange look and didn’t speak to us. The couple had a reservation and they made them sit on the couch and were acting very strangely toward them. The wife then came to give us menus and clearly didn’t want to deal with us, she was very inpatient and chastised the girl who sat us because we were just drinking, not eating. We decided to just do a bottle of the Riesling thinking it was the safe option and the prices were pretty high. The whole time it was an extremely uncomfortable, unwelcoming experience while waiting on the wine. We got the wine and it was… not good. At that point we were just wanting to leave so we finished the wine (that we paid $29 for, grocery store reisling is better and cheaper) and no one ever came back to our table so we had to go to the bar to ask for the check. Again, we were met with attitude and they acted like we were an inconvenience just trying to pay for our wine. Unfortunately we will not be going back.

I knew the wine was phenomenal.
The atmosphere was stunningly gorgeous. The scenic views, the vineyards full of plump grapes dangling like chandeliers of crystal. The patio is so beautifully done, make the reservation to ensure you get an amazing view from your dinner. You have to try the dessert wines, try the dessert. We had a variety of just about everything between us from beef to seafood.

The dinner was spectacular. The steak was perfectly cooked, tender and juicy. The avocado sea food salad was out of this world and a perfect complement. The truffle fries are absolutely to die for and perfect for an evening of sipping wine and enjoying the beautiful estate. Christian was our server and was a delight.

If you are a small group I’m sure you’ll have a good experience. HOWEVER, if you have 5 or more PLEASE go somewhere else. For whatever reason, this place hates groups over 4. If you want your group to be treated like an inconvenience and rushed out, then this is the place for you. I, along with 7 others, drove 1.5 hours to this place for a birthday celebration. What started as a fun evening with friends quickly turned into an uncomfortable and frustrating situation. Our plates and glasses were cleared while we were still actively eating and drinking. Checks were brought while we were still ordering. We had the reservation for 3 hours and instead they kicked us out at 1.5 hours. We absolutely would not recommend and will not be returning.

This is such a relaxing, scenic, and home-feeling place with high quality food and wide variety of wine. What I love the most is the staff here— they are simply amazing—friendly, knowledgeable, personable, with bright smile on every one’s face. (Maybe because the restaurant is run by a lovely husband and wife, thus the homey feeling). The indoor and outdoor spaces both offer great views of the winery and it was such an incredible experience spending a bright Saturday afternoon at Shade Winery!

Party of 5 tonight. Terrific wine, tasting flights were fun, appetizers very good especially the charcuterie board. The entries were good, our favorite was the recommended pork chop. The host was knowledgeable and helpful. Our waitress was great. Definitely going back next time I'm in the area.

wine was good. food was good. waitress was good. the overall vibes were off. our reservation was a 3 hour time slot (5-8pm) and i was there with 8 people celebrating a birthday. right at 2 hours (and about $500 later) a guy came over and told us to leave so they could sit more people even though there was no one waiting for a table and many other tables available. we had just ordered two more bottles of wine… he said “you’ve been here 3 hours” but we had been there 2 hours and 13 minutes. we all traveled about 1.5 hours to get there. I won’t be back unfortunately.
