My fiancé and I thought, let’s try the new spot downtown. To which we made reservations as we expected there to be a long wait because of all the events happening downtown. We walk in roughly 5 minutes prior to our reservation, and it takes the host about 10 minutes to even come to the front desk to greet us. There were only about 2 tables seated and being served so we were confused as to why the wait was so long. Upon getting seated finally, our server gave us the run down on the drink menu. Unfortunately we didn’t get a chance to put in our appetizer and drink order right away because our server assumed that we needed more time which was no problem. The problem lies in the fact that our appetizer came out almost the same time as our dinner. The appetizer was basically a loaf of bread that was too hard to cut with our butter knives. Dinner however was not very good. She ordered the 12 hour brined chicken and I had the beef bourguignon. The chicken was beyond dry and was too tough to even cut with the sharper knife. The beef bourguignon was pretty decent and the major drawback was that the carrots were barely cooked and cold despite the steaming hot plate, which led me to believe it was microwaved. Also which I failed to mention took at least 30 mins to be brought to the table. In our opinion, it was way over priced for the lack of quality and the lack of attention we felt.We more than likely won’t be back and feel like we wasted a good date night on paying extra to be underwhelmed.

The area looked a bit bare, with cheap tables and chairs and it was quite cold. Service was good, our server was very personable. We had tater tots which were very good. The pork belly was just ok. Grilled cheese was very good as well as the walleye and fries. Over all it was pretty good but not enough that we would go back. Especially after paying $15 to park.

This restaurant is like the "before" on an episode of "Hell's Kitchen". We had reservations but were late, and were directed to sit at the bar until another table opened up in 10-15 minutes. The bartender was very friendly, and we ordered a bread appetizer. 25 minutes later, the appetizer had not come, and no one had come to let us know about a table, either, so I went to the person at the front and asked again. After standing there for over 5 minutes as several employees passed by, another person came and told us - very impatiently - that there would be no tables for the next 45 minutes. About 1/4th of the tables in the restaurant were unoccupied. So we left. My wife told me that while I was trying to find out what was going on, she had overheard employees saying that the kitchen was backed up and another conversation about the restaurant running out of several items.I realize that they just opened, so I don't want to ding them on opening hiccups, or on the bartenders, who were very nice people. I *do* want to ding them on the attitude from several other employees that we were a nuisance. Maybe that flies in downtown Chicago or Manhattan, but Toledo, Ohio? Not worth it.EDIT: The response from the manager below appears to have been written by AI, or at least cut-and-pasted from several other responses. Not a good sign.

My wife and decided to try this place during restaurant week because we had never been here before. It was the same night as a Walleye game, but we were able to find nearby inexpensive parking in a garage about a block away. At the time of this review they had only been open a few weeks, and we had a great overall experience. The food came out piping hot and was top notch, and our service was very good. We thought it might be a great place to stop by in the future for a bite at the bar before a game or another date night. We will be back.

Unfortunately unable to rate the food so I gave 3 stars because it sounded good on the menu. Husband and I showed up to check it out and liked what we saw on the menu. We were told without a reservation it would be 30 minutes which was totally fine. Seemed pretty empty but I understand it may have been due to staffing. I was surprised you can't get food if you sit at the bar since we would have been happy to do that and it had plenty of seats too.The host takes our phone number to text when ready at first but then says they actually CANT text us so just come check back in 30 minutes. No problem... we put our name in and walk outside for a bit to see all the new changes to downtown. We come back TWENTY minutes later to be safe and see a couple walk in and immediately be seated. Curious, we ask if they had a reservation and they said no, that they just walked in. However, there was still no table available to US. We decided the disorganization was a red enough flag that we went across the way to Fleetwoods and had wonderful food for surprisingly low cost and about $60 less than we would have ended up spending at Assembly. Disappointed especially since we chose the hotel in part for the in house restaurant.

This was a disappointment because of generic decor which reminded me of a rest stop on the Turnpike, average food and miserable service. One dinner never arrived and that didn't seem to matter much because the manager said they've only been open two weeks so mistakes were to be expected. Not really. Decor looked like a committee of AI design bots tried to create a hipster hangout and wound up with uncomfortable metal chairs and cheap laminate wood floors. Lousy acoustics. Look forward to the space's next faux theme, probably Kielbasa Korner Brat Buffet.

We enjoyed our meal. The waitperson was engaging, humorous (we like that) and attentive. We had: Mussels and Frites, Steak and Frites, 1/2 Chicken, and Cauliflower Bolognese. We were all happy with our entrees. Everything was cooked perfectly. The frites (fries) are outstanding - crispy, salty, piping hot, seasoned. The seasonal cobbler dessert, apple, with ice cream, was delicious, and it was a large portion - the 4 of us shared it. Two of us ordered cocktails. We shared a bottle of wine, selected by one of us, from the wall of bottles the previous restaurant had left behind. We all agreed the food is better than the food in the previous restaurant. We plan to return for other delicious meals. We all hated the chairs! They are made of an unforgiving metal. One of us had to walk around during the meal - felt paralysis coming on! A manager told us that *everyone* dislikes the chairs. She promised us that new ones are on their way! We'll be back as soon as they arrive. And one other peculiarity - one of us ordered a “Beefeater gin martini, up with a twist.” What arrived was - a squat tumbler with about 2 ounces of warm gin in the bottom, and a large piece of lemon peel floating in it. Isn't a martini - shaken or stirred - on ice! - in the repertoire of every bartender? You should go to the new Assembly American Brasserie, for a good meal, and a good time!

Tried Assembly on a Tuesday night as a new restaurant and participating in Toledo Restaurant Week. Food really good, compliments to chef. Seemed like understaffed, as service a little slow. Physical ambiance modern and appealing, tables spread out. However all the hard surfaces make voices resonate and can be difficult to hear. Think this is a carryover as an existing physical location before Assembly took over. They will do carry out orders, which I may try as their menu is very appealing and very happy with the food I ordered.

I’m usually not a reviewer but I just wanted to share some of my experience from my recent visit to American Brasserie. Me and my fiancé went on Valentines Day and I DREAD restuarants on Valentines Day but the entire experience was PERFECT!!! The wait wasn’t too long so we were already off to a good start. Sometimes I feel like the wait times can be purposely deceiving on Valentines Day to get more customers but not only was the wait reasonable, it was truthful! The atmosphere is awesome, I love how open it was it wasn’t stuffy. Nowadays restaurants will have 500 tables and you’re basically sitting in another persons lap. The food was awesome as well, the pork belly was PERFECT. I got the Beef Bourguignon which I’ve only my grandmothers but this was a close second to hers. My fiancé said his steak frites were also good, the steak was cooked at exact temperature. I’m not a big drinker but on Valentine’s Day why not so I got the Ruby—soooo good lol. Not too strong and also not watered down. I’ll definitely be back again. The service we received was so genuine and the staff was so inviting and warm and personable! I think the managers name was Erica (she introduced herself I have terrible memory lol). She took care of us! Good service starts at the head and I could tell. Thank you very much for the awesome evening!

We tried this out on a Friday night. The place was relatively slow, so we were seated right away. The service was friendly and the pace of service was good. The drinks and food were excellent. I would say the portions and prices were fair but not generous. Give it a try.
