We enjoyed an exceptional Valentine's dinner at EL Tipico, with outstanding food and service, for a reasonable $60.00 per couple, which included an appetizer, two entrees, and dessert. We have enjoyed El Tipicoâs many times over the years. Toledo is blessed to have an authentic, organic Mexican restaurant whose owner cares about using only the freshest ingredients!

Restaurant Name: El Tipico
Location: Toledo, Ohio (Yes, OHIO. Pack your bags, Mexico City, you've got competition.)
Rating: âââââ (Iâd give it 6, but my keyboard is a realist.)
Let me start by saying I have eaten. I have eaten in many places. I once ate a âgourmetâ taco in California for $28 that was served on a slate roof tile. I have never, in my life, eaten like I ate at El Tipico.
Walking in, you are greeted by two things: 1) The blissful, heavenly aroma of roasting meats, simmering sauces, and fresh tortillas. 2) The stark, sobering reality of the âNO ALCOHOLâ sign on the door. Itâs a emotional rollercoaster. One second youâre in a culinary paradise, the next youâre being reminded of your personal failings.
But forget that. Letâs talk about the food. The food here isnât just âgood.â Itâs not even just âgreat.â The food at El Tipico is the kind of meal that makes you want to call your ex just to say, âYou were wrong about me, but more importantly, you were wrong about never finding perfect refried beans.â The carne asada is so flavorful Iâm convinced the cow was raised on a bed of herbs and classic literature. The chiles rellenos are a symphonyâa slightly spicy, cheesy, egg-battered symphony that Beethoven would have written a 10th symphony about if heâd had the chance.
The salsa alone should be in a museum. I would wear it as a cologne. I considered dipping my wallet in it just so I could taste it later.
Now, about the no-alcohol situation. Itâs a BYOG situation. Bring Your Own Gumption. And possibly, hypothetically, in a purely fictional sense, a small flask of tequila and a lime procured from the local grocer. The friendly staff provides you with exceptional sodds and the worldâs most delicious horchata. They also provide you with a tantalizing array of lime wedges for your non-alcoholic beverages. It would be a real shame if, say, a contraband sip of agave nectar were to accidentally meet one of those limes in a moment of pure, flavor-induced euphoria. Not that Iâm suggesting anything. Iâm just saying the limes are very, very generous. And your purse might suddenly feel a little heavier on the way in.
In conclusion, El Tipico is the best restaurant in Toledo, Ohio, the Midwest, and possibly this dimension. The lack of a margarita is a small price to pay for a religious dining experience. Just come with a full heart, an empty stomach, and a strategically over-stuffed coat pocket.
Final Verdict: 10/10. Will be back next week. Authorities (and the lovely waitstaff), please ignore the slight bulge in my jacket. Itâs just⊠a new kind of enthusiasm.

Went down to Toledo for a vegan meetup at El Tipico Restaurant
We felt very spoiled to be in a place that served vegan queso blanco, cheese, and sour cream. They offered grilled veggies, mexican potatoes, and pea protein crumbles as fillings for many of their dishes. Also was super excited to have dishes with mole too.
There were so many options available it was almost paralyzing đ€Ż
Pictured are the mexican pizza, enchilada mole with, chimichanga with verde sauce, super burro with mole, pappas mexicanas (potatoes cooked with tomatoes).

This spot was delicious and a perfect choice for our health conscious family! The whole place is free of seed oils.
The mexican pizza was sooo cheesy and delicious! And the apple empanadas for dessert đ«đđ€€
