Wanted to spend our 55th anniversary at an upscale restaurant. First we waited to be seated and were escorted to a booth way in the back and upstairs. Senior citizens have mobility issues at times so this was inconsiderate. They proceeded to sit a family of 7 with 4 children under age 6 next to us. We could barely hear each other. We ordered but were shocked that everything was ala carte. My husband ordered a ribeye steak and mashed potatoes. That is ALL he got, no veggie, no side salad, no bread, for $43. My sea bass was provided with 2 sides, one of which was tough grilled asparagus.
Needless to say we will not return to this establishment and will warn others what to expect.

We thought we would try this place out and we were very pleased that we did. We are from CT, and we have some pretty good steak spots there but the prime rib here was absolutely amazing. A tiny bit salty on the outer crust but other than that cooked perfectly and the taste was phenomenal. Mashed potatoes were great all around and carrot cake for dessert was fabulous as well. I give the place a good 4.9. I will definitely go back!

Parking: Big open parking lot

Kid-friendliness: I did not have my kids with me but I would have definitely been comfortable with bringing them with me

My night at this lovely establishment started off bad but my new server Trinidad & the Awesome Manager Kevin made sure me and My Giant "My son" enjoy our meal they provided exceptional service that will make me want to return. After a long afternoon at my son college game my meal made the day even better and I'm grateful for the turn around service I received from two awesome staff members of this location. I will be returning the next time to this location I'm in Ohio for my son game until Miami/ft Lauderdale location me.

My wife and I dined there last evening, a first time in many years, and generally speaking it was an adequate experience. I ordered chicken strips and my wife ordered the pasta.
However, we were both surprised that nothing else was included with these entrees, such as bread or even a cracker, items that are normally offered by other popular restaurants, and At the high cost of the entrées, we felt certain these would be a given. It is unlikely we will be returning any time soon, if at all.

a very disappointing experience; we ordered pasta and that is exactly, and ALL that was served……and a meager portion at best, with no signs of bread or even a cracker made an appearance.

Nice waiter. The calamari wasn’t fully cooked at all and very rubbery (it shouldn’t be).

We drove from Dearborn, MI down to Toledo, OH for a little road trip ending at J Alexander’s for dinner. The decor is modern and rather dark and plain but the food is delicious! The Steak Burger I ordered Med Well and it was perfect! The grilled onions were hiding under the meat which seems strange but still gave the burger a great flavor. It had that char grilled smoky taste. Yum! I swapped the fries for the smashed red skin potatoes. They were good and a generous portion but a bit on the salty side. Our waitress was attentive but not overly so. Great experience.

What happened J.’s?
J. Alexander’s used to be my favorite restaurant for the food, service and atmosphere…Unfortunately, the restaurant has seen better days. The service was stellar per usual (it’s what keeps me coming back), the food was decent—honestly it wasn’t on par with the best I’ve gotten from there, but the atmosphere was lacking. I was very disappointed; upon entering, I smelled the off-putting not so clean lobby. It’s like the carpets and seating needed to be cleaned/shampooed/deodorized, my party’s booth floor was slippery and the tabletop had small puddles of water (like it had been wiped down and areas had been missed). Also, the women’s restroom needs some tlc. It was clean, but it’s really starting to show its age in not the most flattering way. While I understand it is a chain, I miss the days of J. Alexander’s feeling a bit more upscale (I know it’s not but, it used to *feel* that way) without being pretentious.

I use to come here with my grandparents over 20 years ago. I've recently moved to the area and took my daughter here for dinner to celebrate. The food and ambiance are exactly how I remember, absolutely perfect! I ordered the chicken pasta soup. My daughter and I shared a cheeseburger because she was also dying to try the macaroni and cheese! Then we of course had to get dessert. The carrot cake is even better than I remember! Can't wait to dine here again!

Webster’s dictionary defines perfection as… some sort of nonsense because it does not explicitly say “Dinner at J Alexander’s with Reece as your server.” We all work hard for our money and nights out are sometimes rare and exceedingly special, so when the food or service is not up to par it can be a disastrous let down.

Luckily, my wife and I have found the perfect antidote to this devastating disappointment. Simply make a reservation at J’s and request Reece as your server. As fantastic and delectable as the food was, Reece surpassed our expectations even more than the elegant dishes he served us. Pure professionalism with a genuine smile and a sense that he really cared about our satisfaction, instead of just suggesting the most expensive thing on the menu. These types of selfless and empathic servers, or any salesman working on commission, are exceedingly rare and absolutely deserve to be recognized.

Joan, the Front of House Manager, was similarly attentive and courteous. After speaking with her, it made complete sense why the service was so excellent because with someone like her training your employees there’s a slim chance you’ll be disappointed in any way.

Thank you Reece. We were coming out to celebrate the life of someone who was taken too soon, and your kind and wholesome demeanor helped us enjoy a meal in Roger’s honor. It really meant a lot to both of us, and we both cannot wait to come back and sit in your section again.

You seriously cannot go wrong choosing J’s for a meal for any occasion. It is the perfect balance between posh and laid back, and the kitchen staff and bartenders are so darn good you will leave with only one regret… and that is that you aren’t hungry enough to have another meal.

Thank you for the amazing experience and and we both cannot wait to see you again, the sooner the better!

We went here after funeral services for my father in law. Emillio was our server and he was very attentive. 3 of us ordered steak Maui which is my personal favorite. How does chef get so much flavor in that piece of steak? I must say, I might have a new favorite though, the Hong Kong Shrimp appetizer! I am from Louisiana and this shrimp was spot on! Thank you to the J Alexander's team, you made our day memorable and we finished the meal with the carrot cake. Such a great finish to a tough day!
