I’ve never personally ate at Plat8 before but I do clean at the building (Geomar) and the restaurant is actually permanently closed! I’ve had to tell quite a few people coming in for the restaurant and I feel bad that nobody knows it’s closed!

Great atmosphere, great wait staff, and for once a place that doesn't burn a burger.

I used to come in for the entertainment on Saturday mornings but I think they got rid of that. It's only a few seconds away from my house but I think I'm going to be traveling elsewhere. The food is just okay, the atmosphere is okay, I think they need to do something different.

I had the most unusual experience. I've never actually had a situation like this before. It was something almost out of a movie, a romcom I'd imagine. I guess that made me John Cusack or Jack Black? My friends made a reservation and had the screen shot of it as proof even, but when we got there they didn't have our reservation or even know about it. They made it right by seating the four of us promptly at the MAIN table, a table for 8-10 people. It was very nice to have the extra space and a bit more light. The atmosphere is very quaint, almost like a speak easy. Lots of wood, a large bar for a small area, and very simply decorated. It can get a little loud in there, but that might just have been the table of ladies in the corner that wanted to be heard by the politician sitting with his wife across the room.We ordered appetizers, stuffed mushrooms and the beef tips. Both came out in a reasonable amount of time. The beef tips were amazing, tender and the "gravey" was thin and almost felt healthy. The mushrooms were ok. The stuffing in them had an obvious vegetable presence, corn and something else, something leafy. Not too much flavor maybe, very light as well. The issue was, on maybe my third or fourth mushroom, all of which I cut in half, I had what I thought was an under-cooked leafy vegetable. I couldn't rip it apart in my mouth, but I started to flatten it out, unroll it on my tongue. Growing as I unraveled it, I had to pull it out of my mouth, because part of it started to go down my throat. To my party's shock, as I pulled it out, I probably looked like I was a bad clown entertainer. It seemed bigger in my mouth, no jokes please, but it turned out to be a sheet of plastic! Balled up, clear plastic, like you would find shrink wrapped around a quart of mushrooms at the store. I don't think I swallowed any, at least not in that mushroom. I'd eaten enough, and they were good, so I ate the last one, very cautiously, probing like, and cut up, even after my discovery. Clean plate club I admit. We told the waitress, so that they could troubleshoot to make sure no other customers would have the same issue. We proceeded with dinner. My apple salad was good, different then what I have had elsewhere, not better, not worse, unique. I liked it. My salmon was great! Just not enough. The best part was the vegetables that came with it. Brussel sprouts and a mixture of a couple additional vegetables. If there was any problem with my main course, it would have just been the, maybe 3 oz piece of salmon. Everything tasted great. I had a local micro brew beer, and my friend had a couple over priced cocktails, our wives had wine. The chef/owner? Is a very nice and polite man. He came out and apologized in person for the plastic wrap. He also said that he comped our appetizers and my drinks. Everyone was so nice about the situation I felt bad when I actually had brought a Foody Card for a bit off my bill. I didn't feel bad when I saw that my wife and I still had a large bill though. I didn't know the price and portions going into the restaurant, that was my bad. I definitely didn't expect to find a surprise in my appetizer, that was their bad. The place is nice and we had great food, sans my surprise ingredient. It just seemed not right, spending that much after getting so much discounted and then having to go home and eat some frozen pizza slices because I was still hungry. I'd suggest more salmon on the PL8, or at least a lot more of those tasty vegetables.I'll probably go again, because the food WAS great. I just hope this was an odd, one-off occurrence, and that there is no sequel to my romcom movie.

Every city has at least one chic dining spot serving tasty, original entrees and popular cocktails. Unfortunately, Plat 8 is NOT that place. On my third attempt to have a good dining experience at Plat 8, I tried several appetizers and entrees. Here's the outcome: the mussels with chorizo lacked flavor, was rubbery in texture and had tiny specks of chorizo...not nearly enough to enhance the flavor of the dish. The mussel broth was bland and boring as well. My 'classic wedge' salad was awful. Everyone knows that a true wedge salad is made with iceberg lettuce and a river of bleu cheese dressing. I received a plate with two tiny romaine lettuce chunks (very bitter chunks) with thiny clumps of gorgonzola cheese and a gluey balsamic drizzle. Add the sticker shock of $15 to that 'salad'! My entree of braised short ribs was even more disappointing. The ribs were a salty pile of shredded meat centered on mashed potatoes. Two bites were all I could srand. My friend's entree was crabcakes on risotto...which tasted like fish flavored porridge that had been fried. It had to be returned to the kitchen and replaced with seared salmon. Sadly, the single piece of salmon was the length of a finger and under cooked. Total price $120. Not going back!!!

Nice ambiance however the food lacked in flavor. Ordered fried green tomatoes very crunchy how I like it but no seasonings whatsoever also ordered the walleye crispy... it came out burnt. The waitress never came back to ask how was our meal. We asked for the check paid and left. $75 bill for food I couldn't

Nice restaurant for date night. Good drinks friendly fast service. I have been here three times recently. Food is good but tends to be a bit overcooked and a bit pricey. But I will definitely be back.

I'll have to admit that a couple of years ago I didn't have a great experience at Plat8. It was my birthday. I made a reservation and upon arrival was told it was not received. Hostess/server was very nice and apologetic (ain't her fault). Most of the menu items were not available. That did not go over well with me considering the prices for the items that were available but didn't really want .We debated leaving but decided to stay as local businesses need support. Gave it another shot today. Overall good dining experience from beginning to end. Blueberry Martini was refreshingly good. Mussels with chorizo??? Had to have it! Good! Braised short ribs were fork-tender, flavorful and exquisitely plated but the polenta while flavorful was lukewarm.Chocolate cheesecake was rich and delightful. Server was pleasant and attentive. Atmosphere was nice. No complaints this time.

We had a fantastic Friday night dinner here. We started off with the fried green tomatos, which I was a little iffy about ordering just because it's not something I'd normally get, but we were so glad we did. They were so crispy, and the toppings were delicious. For dinner, I had steak with polenta (substitution for potatoes) and brussel sprouts. Personally, I very rarely order steak out just because I love the way my former chef husband cooks it that no where compares, but I gave it a try and it was SO GOOD. It was cooked and seasoned perfectly with a delicious compound butter. The polenta was also perfectly cooked, so creamy and cheesy; best I've ever had and I really love polenta. I had the special coconut drink and a blueberry (?) martini. We had creme brulee. Everything honestly was just perfect. I love patronizing locally own establishments, and this one is fantastic. The atmosphere, food, and service are amazing. We don't get to go out often but we'll definitely be back!

We had a fantastic Friday night dinner here. It wasn't very busy for a Friday night, which I think might have to do with the location - absolutely not the food, or service.
