Cardinal Pizza is usually my go-to spot in uptown Westerville — great food, great vibe, always a favorite. But during my last visit, things got wild in the worst way.
A kitchen staff member completely lost it in the middle of the restaurant — yelling, cussing, getting in the face of the female bartender and even a teen employee. It was loud, aggressive, and honestly embarrassing to witness. He stormed out still swearing, leaving the whole place on edge.
And here’s the part that really shocked me: not a single manager stepped in. Not one person in charge came out to shut it down or support the staff who were taking the brunt of it. That’s unacceptable.
The bartender, though? Absolute rockstar. She kept her cool, handled the chaos with dignity, and did everything she could to protect the atmosphere. She deserved backup — not to be left alone dealing with someone acting completely out of line.
Food was fantastic as always, and I’ll definitely be back. But management needs to take situations like this seriously. Your staff and your customers deserve better.

Sunday afternoon, football game on -busy and loud -somewhat a locals joint. Sat at the lower table and watched as the barmade was incredibly busy, yet she never missed a beat. Didn’t catch her name, but the receipt says curbee- I left her over 25% and I certainly hope everybody else did, not seen somebody hustle like that in years. Overly impressed with the service. Ordered the gluten-free pepperoni, sausage and banana peppers, toppings were exceptional crust is premade but cooked properly. Cardinal house salad, which was very good. The only downside is Pepsi, which, for the record reflects so poorly upon the ownership dust your wallet off, considering what you charge for a pop put Diet Coke in there, please. Overall recommended and likely return. They also have TOAST for check out, which is a plus.

The pizza is really good. The process to get it was very frustrating.
My family comes in to town and specifically requests to go here because it really is very tasty pizza.
But some changes have been made in operations that aren't very customer friendly.
The menu is now online only. You have to scan a QR code at the table to access a digital menu. This is not a user friendly process for some of us for a variety of reasons. Some customers may have disabilities, struggle to navigate digital formats, have slow phones, or a variety of other reasons. Plus the QR code was on a shiny surface, so our phones struggled to even scan them properly. Please have a printed menu available on request.
The QR code took us to an online menu which was entirely missing the non-alcoholic drink options. This is a shame since this place has some nice bottled soda options. I had to pull up their separate to-go menu in order to find the drinks.
And maybe, you'd say, I could have asked the server to tell me what was available. We'll that was the other disappointment. She was severely overworked. She was practically jogging thru the tiny area to handle the tables, bar, and take-out orders (incoming and outgoing) all on her own. I certainly didn't want to bog her down by making her list every option.
She was very friendly and an incredibly hard worker that was doing the best a human could possibly be expected to do, but it was too much! I really hope that was a one off situation, and you usually have 2 people running the front of the house.
Also, potential customers, please be aware that there is only one disability friendly table. They do not allow you to reserve it. All the rest are counter height chairs.

Cardinal Pizza is a phenomenal stop by as one walks through Uptown Westerville the pizza slices are well made and fresh and probably the best I have had in a while. Happy people work here and the food comes out fast. It’s a chill environment and a great Happy Hour deal with all the libations. Thank you for your welcome atmosphere and kind staff they can draw tigers on their signage really really well. Roar!

I haven’t tried their Columbus style pizza, but that’s hard to mess up. I’ve had their NY style pizza multiple times and it ranks up there near Borgata Pizza Cafe when it comes to NY style pizza in Columbus. I’ve had wings and subs here as well and everything was good - high quality ingredients and preparation. The only thing I don’t love there is the sausage they use on their pizzas. But, everyone else seemed to enjoy it.
The wait time on delivery orders can be quite high when they’re busy, but that’s to be expected. Opening up to 3rd party delivery apps could probably help that a bit.
Edit:
I tried the Columbus style and didn’t love it. The bottom was burnt and that kind of dominated the flavor. The NY style, service, delivery drivers, etc, still make this place 5/5 though.

The pizza is always delicious but I have a bad experience every time I add an appetizer or salad to my order. I decided to call to place a complaint, I ordered the large size “Fancy Pants” salad for $12, the item was extremely underwhelming and disappointing for the price, when discussing the issue with the attendant they just stayed silent and offered if I wanted a replacement, very out of place for a to go order, I asked for a refund and weirdly they “can’t process such”, solution was store credit. Bottom line, pizza great, other times, don’t bother to order.

I ordered dinner for my family on their website. The order was estimated to be delivered at a certain time. I got a text message about 15 minutes prior to that saying my order was ready. That was the last of the communication. I called to verify that the pizza was coming and I went to voicemail 4 times. One time, I spoke with someone long enough to agree to be put on hold then….5 minutes later I gave up. With no confirmation and no response I was forced to make a quick frozen pizza for my family. When my pizza got out of the oven, the door bell rang…45 minutes later than expected, it was dinner time. The delivery driver was a nice kid and I didn’t complain to him. I shrugged it off but then opened the box for he pizza. I ordered extra basil on my margarita pizza (+$2) and the pizza had the equivalent of one basil leaf shredded and scattered on a few of the slices. Disappointed is clear. Buyer beware.

Excellent food and very attentive servers. There were no seats when we arrived so the bar actually text us to let us know when we had a spot, with little kids it was great to walk around while we waited. It was so worth it too, absolutely delicious.
