I've been meaning to try Johnnie's, a Rt66 staple, for several years now. I finally had the chance to stop in and see for myself if it lives up to everything I've read and seen in Rt66 travel guide and YouTube videos.
I'm happy to say that it isn't hype, it's just that good.
Johnnie's has been open since 1946, and is my favorite kind of restaurant. It has a great short order menu, and the service was outstanding. The employees were friendly, and even though there was a good lunch crowd, they were also very attentive.
I ordered an original Oklahoma Onion Burger with cheese, a Coney with chili and slaw, a half order of shoe string fries, and a slice of Coconut cream pie.
The burger was just the right blend of bitter and sweet from the grilled onion. The fries were perfect and hand cut. The coney was an actual red Coney (if you know, you know) and the chili and slaw were both house made. The pie is also house made and they have a very large desert menu.
The other thing I cant emphasize enough is the value. I could only eat about half of each of my items thanks to generous portions. My entire meal cost less than a single hamburger at a trendy 'burger joint'.
If you are a fan of history and want to experience a true old fashioned meal, try Johnnie's!

Best breakfast in El Reno!
Great onion smash burgers! Great onion rings and fresh cut fries! Everything was delicious and hit the spot. Everything was made to order and piping hot when brought to our table. Our waitress and patient and knowledgeable, she was excellent in her service. The cooks did a great job keeping up with orders. Definitely worth a stop...they have many other options than just burgers, give them a try!

Legendary! Had a chili cheese dog and it was the hop and bop between a sliced bun. Dad got the double cheeseburger and the taste was unmatched. Kids chicken was also great too. Good family oriented restaurant and a relic.
