I had the chorizo con queso. Very very excellent food and service!!!!! Doesn’t taste like chain restaurant food does. Tastes very very delicious and I’m just a southern cracker, what do I know.

La Tabasqueña Mexican Grocery and Restaurant is a deliciously authentic local Mexican restaurant that's part of a small Mexican grocery store. The chorizo con queso is very very excellent, and the food and service don't taste like chain restaurant food. The guac salsa served with the chips is amazing as a dip and amazing on everything, and the agua frescas are authentic. The Menudo (beef tripe) soup is the best in McAlester, with a very delicious and authentic selection of food. Servers are courteous and polite in a very warm atmosphere. It is vegetarian friendly - just ask the chef to make anything or make modifications. The mangonada is yummy, and the salsa macha (chili oil) is the bomb, a slow and satisfying burn. There is a good menu plus five daily specials, and the owner is nice and helpful. The small dining room has only about five tables in a separate room behind the grocery store, so get it to go if you don't wanna dine in. Prices are affordable, and everything is made with love and care.
