Bring back the good ol chips!
The guy take our order was ruled. Didn't washed his hands. He ask for a 10 dollar tip before he delivered our for to us. Never going back.

Caleb was a super friendly awesome server! We enjoyed the table side-made top shelf guacamole, the lunch deals, and the tres banditos. Would come back.

the new owners have this restaurant in shambles. the staff was all over the place due to the fact the owner wanted to be involved in EVERYTHING. also the food was no where as delicious as well, you can tell the tortillas are no longer made my hand and the sour cream was as hard as a rock. very disappointing.

El Chico... I'd went here many years ago as a kid, and I thought it was pretty darn good. Can't say it held up, unfortunately. Walking in, and immediately get hit with the smell of cleaning products. While not the worst smell (at least they clean the restaurant), it didn't help the atmosphere.
The food was a mixed bag. Chips, salsa and cheese sauce were above average. The fajitas were good, but the beans and rice left alot to be desired. A dry, uncooked bag of Knorr mexican rice and a can of cold beans would have fared better.
The best part of the experience was the service. The host and wait staff were kind and helpful. Between that and the affordable price, it sits at a 3/5. If you are already at the Sooner Fashion Mall, definitely a quick, affordable option. That said, don't go out of your way.

The wait staff are kind and attentive. The menu consists of simple yet effective dishes that are much less than authentic but does the job if you want to sit and chat over drinks. I recommend the rodeo combo.

Guess I've found my replacement at Interurban on Thursdays. As you can see when you takeout they don't give you a "small" size condiment container, it's half of a pint.
Maybe El Chico needs to compete $7.99 (2 enchiladas, rice and beans)

I've frequented El Chico with my family in Norman since moving here in 1989. Often taking my family of 18 including married children and 10 grandkids. Suddenly a new owner gives you no incentive to takeout meals. If you dine in you receive a setup with unlimited queso, salsa and chips. (THEIR COMPETITORS PROVIDE LARGE QUESO/SALSA WITH TAKEOUT) If you takeout and want half pints of queso and salsa you're charged. I would think not dining in would open up a table for more customers/money. But the new owner's attitude reminds me of Joe Pesci who warns us that you get screwed when you takeout. NO LONGER A CUSTOMER AFTER ALMOST 40 YEARS. GOOD LUCK TO THE NEW OWNERS WITH THEIR ATTITUDE.

I come in here from time to time, but it seems like every time I do I get eh service from the bartenders, they don't seem too friendly at all, I had to ask him this last tim
e to check on my order bc I was told 15 min and I arrived like 40 ish min and it still wasn't ready, well he didn't check, he continued to be at the bar register instead of helping me as he should have, then someone bought out some orders and tried to tell him and he ignored her too , finally he came over and just proceeded to bag my items instead of going over then with me as he should have, so I was over it and just left,then I was shorted a side of beans , I guess I'll just have to check everything myself before I leave from here from now on.
