Not a Place I’ll Be Returning To

This restaurant was a disappointment from the moment we arrived. There were two trash cans placed under the ceiling to catch dripping water—not exactly a welcoming first impression. The wall decor was nice though.

Our drinks took a while to arrive after we ordered, and when they did, they tasted watered down and weren’t worth the wait. I also felt the food was overpriced for the quality and portion size.

I ordered the Honey Roasted Lavender Chicken, which clearly stated on the menu that it comes with Hot Water Cake. Three of us at the table ordered the same dish. At no point were we told that the Hot Water Cake was unavailable. It wasn’t until we received our meals—without the Hot Water Cake—that we realized something was off. No explanation was given until we pointed it out, and even then, the waitress seemed unsure and unprepared.

We politely asked if something could be substituted, but the communication was lacking. We all chose what we wanted to be substituted.

Overall, this was not a great experience, and unfortunately, I won’t be coming back.

The oyster entrée, and Chenin Blanc wine were excellent. Very clean and noisy.

Excellent food. I will definitely go back for more. Go try it!

First time at BW. Apps were great. Drinks were great. If I were to critique, it would be three small things: 1. I ordered the chicken that's on the bone. It came in a bowl which made it more difficult to cut and eat. 2. I wish their website had instructions for parking in the parking garage. 3. The rain was very heavy that evening and water was coming out of the AC vent. Hopefully just a one time thing

The experience was great the food was the best part. The blend of flavors made the taste very unique, but good. We will definitely go back, and yes it is a little pricey, but what good restaurant isn't.

A truly hidden gem tucked in the corner of OKC’s downtown. Had the mac and cheese bites and the New Zealand lamb; both incredibly good. The drinks made by the bar staff were good and well-balanced.

We came for our anniversary, which is usually an occasion where we hold out for nicer, more upscale restaurants. This place turned out to be a little more casual than we were expecting, which isn't a bad thing, just not what we were expecting. There seemed to be a company party happening in the restaurant, which caused a lot of noise to carry throughout the restaurant. The atmosphere was more reminiscent of somewhere like Olive Garden. So, it's not bad, just not what we expected. Our service was excellent, never having to wait long for each item and presentation was beautiful. The food was really good, especially the Burgundy Mushroom appetizer, as well as our entrees. I got the Honey Roasted Lavender Chicken, and my husband got the English Beef Rib. Both were pretty good. The beef rib reminded me of pot roast, and the chicken was definitely a honey roasted chicken, but still allowed for the floral-ness of the lavender to shine through. The cocktail we ordered was great. The slice of chocolate cake had a really good ganache frosting, but was ultimately a slice of chocolate cake, so maybe try one of the other desserts if you're looking for more of an experience. Overall, we enjoyed our time and would recommend anyone to try it at least once! Thank you, Black Walnut!

I was extremely impressed by Black Walnut. Parking: As anyone knows, finding parking for a restaurant downtown is a pain. Black Walnut however has plenty of free parking. Greeting: We were greeted timely and sat and drinks were taken and brought back in a timely manner. Food: The food is to die, highly recommend paying extra for the steak. Environment: A very business casual vibe. The perfect vibe for a date. Service: We were checked up on constantly to make sure everything was okay.

Key Points:

I had a reservation for two on a Friday night, and upon arrival, we were delighted to be seated immediately, especially since the restaurant was not busy at all (a good start!).

However, our experience took a turn when we were placed near the bar and the area where servers gathered. Despite the lack of crowd, we waited 10 to 15 minutes before anyone acknowledged us, which was disappointing.

When we finally placed our orders, I found the salmon dish to be lacking in seasoning.
In contrast, the honey roasted lavender chicken was flavorful and enjoyable (definitely a win!).

As a fan of well-crafted mocktails, I was eager to try theirs, but sadly, they fell short – either tasting too sour or appearing watered down.

The star of the evening, was the Black Walnut Cake. It was delicate, and delicious (truly a standout moment!).

While the decor is stunning and elevates the overall ambiance, the quality of service and the food experience fell short of expectations.

My friend and I recently visited this restaurant for date night. We had reservations but didn't need them on a Tuesday night. The restaurant is a nice place with modern styling. The menu is a little different. We had baked Chevre for our appetizer. We both found it quite delicious. For cocktails I had their Old Fashioned. It was better than most. For our main course I had the salmon, and my friend had the Fried Green Tomatoes. Both were quite good. The wait staff was quite attentive and friendly. Pricing was quite reasonable for a downtown restaurant.

This is the perfect date night restaurant in OKC.
The service was great in explaining the menu and made great suggestions.
The food is flavourful and filling and the drinks were made to perfection as if it was made at a place charging twice as much for their dishes.
I would mark this as a great special occasions type place to eat, but it's great for simply treating yourself out to a very nice meal.

We really enjoyed our Dinner. It wasn't overly crowded and service was great. I think the food was excellent for the cost. We had the fried green tomatoes, lobster bites, burgundy mushroom, beef ribs and the rack of lamb. We like the ribs and the fried green tomatoes most. Although, we would eat it all again.

I don’t anticipate returning. I was disappointed with the service and the food. My food was barely warm. And the service was mediocre … very unenthusiastic waitress.

We had a special dinner at the Black Walnut; it was a memorable experience! We initially tried to get a table for 12 hours but found it fully reserved. However, we decided to stop in and check- and thankfully, they had a seat for us in the bar area!

We started with jerk chicken lollipops served with mango chutney-damn, it was so good! The Parmesan truffle fries were a great touch.

For our main course, my wife had the Cast Iron Strip (12 oz. New York Strip with red wine mushroom reduction, crispy potatoes, and Brussels sprouts), while I had the English beef ribs. Each was cooked to perfection and tasted really awesome.

The bartenders are really friendly, adding to the overall experience. Overall, an exquisite dinner at Black Walnut, we would definitely recommend it 😍😍😍😍
