let me start off by saying that i really wanted to love this one. after reading about how it had won a james beard award and seeing it featured in many places, i had high hopes. however, as far as soul food goes, it just didn't really do it for me. everything was on the bland side, and i felt the service and atmosphere of the restaurant was lacking. it felt more like a diner than a restaurant, and could be so much better if a little more love was put into it. sadly, i probably...
I won't degrade the restaraunt. I was excited based on reviews. I am critical because I come from a family of cooks, and I love to cook.
The food was ok.
The banana pudding was not the homemade custard I expected. I am not sure everyone's grandma made banana pudding with a homemade, handmade, from scratch custard, so it may be preference.
I prefer more seasoning on my food.

We were visiting from Houston. We came on a Monday after. This was great ! The food came out quick and fresh. That Lemonade…..I had 2 and another to go. We will definitely be back. Highly recommend. We didn’t even spend $40. Never would get that in HTX !
