It had been a while since we visited Kilkenny’s, so we stopped in for a late-night dinner. I tried the lobster corn bisque, but it wasn’t like I remembered—rubbery lobster and not very creamy. That said, the corned beef and cabbage was as delicious as always! The potatoes were a little bland, but still good re-seasoned & reheated at home. We mostly go for the corned beef—it never disappoints! Just bring a sweater, it’s chilly inside.

Kilkenny’s is what happens when Chili’s puts on an Irish accent and calls itself a pub. There’s a vague suggestion of authenticity—boxty this, bangers that—but make no mistake: this is American comfort food in a green rugby shirt. I’ve been coming here for years, mostly because it never changes. That’s not a complaint. There’s something admirable about a place that refuses to evolve. The lights stay dim, the Guinness flows, and the menu reads like a small-town phone book. Twenty-two appetizers. Seven boxties. Ten burgers. Pasta for the cautious. Oysters for the bold. The Thomas Town Tenders, which have absolutely nothing to do with Ireland, are usually my go-to—not because they’re great, but because I’ve already been staring at the menu too long, spiraling into analysis paralysis, and I know they’ll do the trick and the name is easy to remember. There’s a burger called “Big Daddy’s Gut Grinder.” I don't know who that’s for, but it sounds like something you order when you've given up. A dare between two fraternity brothers. A culinary war crime on a bun. They even have a Cajun Bayou Burger for whatever reason. Maybe a sad attempt at fusion. Service is fine. Not fast, not slow—just there. You’ll wait for a table, especially on the weekend, and you’ll like it. Because once you’re inside, it’s cozy. Familiar. You’ll probably see someone you know, or someone you’re glad you don’t. And then there’s the Irish Breakfast Shot—whiskey, orange juice, and bacon. Less a cocktail, more a cry for help. The kind of drink dreamed up by someone who hates mornings, Ireland, and themselves in equal measure. It’s not clever. It’s not good. But at 1 a.m., after using a pound of fried food to mop up the booze and bad decisions, it somehow goes down easier than it should. Kilkenny’s isn’t great. It’s not trying to be. It’s loud, bloated, and proudly mediocre. But it’s ours. And on some nights that’s enough.

The dish usually comes with thick, golden potato wedges that are satisfying on their own, but for a true comfort food experience, I always sub in the potatoes au gratin. Creamy, buttery, and loaded with gooey melted cheese, they’re rich and indulgent. The kind of side that definitely fills you up. Another must-try is their Traditional Irish Stew. For only $9, you get a hearty bowl of slow-cooked beef, carrots, onions, and potatoes in a savory broth. It really hits the spot. What really makes Kilkenny’s shine beyond the food is the service. My wife and I stopped in at Kilkenny’s on a Monday night, having hit the road that morning to begin our journey west along Route 66. By the time we reached Tulsa, we were ready for dinner and a pint—somewhere comfortable, not a generic hotel restaurant or a national chain. We wanted a place with character, and Kilkenny’s delivered in every way.
Irish pubs can be hit or miss—sometimes they feel more like themed set pieces than actual places. But Kilkenny’s felt authentic from the moment we walked in. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, the food was excellent, and the pint selection hit the spot.
What truly made the experience memorable, though, was the staff. Our server was friendly and attentive, and the manager even came over to chat with us. They made us feel right at home. Before we left, they handed us a Kilkenny’s pint glass to take with us—a small gesture, but it made a big impression.
It was the perfect first stop for our journey: a relaxed, genuine local place where we could wind down, eat well, and feel like we’d found something special. If you’re ever in Tulsa—or if you live there—you should definitely stop in. I know we will next time we’re in town.

Went here for lunch on New Year’s Day as it was one of the few restaurants in town that were open. I had the Irish stew and a salad and both were great. Service was fast and efficient, the setting was very pub-like as expected. I will definitely be back to try the burger.

I loved the atmosphere and our server was amazing! I think the menu is a good size and has a lot of variety. I really appreciated the allergen info and dedicated gluten free menu. The only comment I gave about this food is that everything we got was under seasoned. My vegetables with the corn beef had no seasoning at all… it was plain potatoes, carrots and cabbage and the potatoes au gratin and Cole slaw could have used salt and pepper too. We probably won’t return just because the food was very underwhelming
